As reigning head coaches from last year’s Division 1 Grand Final Series, Essendon’s Peter Giles has been named to lead the West Monarchs All-Star team, while Cheltenham’s Adam Blackley will lead the Eastern Reds team with Blackley saying he hopes the All-Star only feeds the long held rivalry.
“We have always speculated which side of the competition is stronger and now we actually get to see” said Blackley.
“Obviously, this year it is an exhibition game and the players only get bragging rights but it would be great to give them something to play for in the future”.
“I'm excited to be a part of it this year and hope the Victorian public can really get behind it and really make it something that we look forward to each year”.
The Western Monarchs will be made up by players from: Essendon, Geelong, Fitzroy, Newport, Preston and Sandringham. While the Eastern Reds will consist of players from: Melbourne, Blackburn, Moorabbin, Springvale, Waverley and Cheltenham.
Coaches are currently in the process of selecting their teams and announcements of teams to follow in the coming weeks.
Entry to the game will be FREE, and we welcome all family, friends and supporters of the players and Victorian Baseball to come out to the Ballpark on January 18 and help us celebrate our great sport on what we hope will be a very special, memorable and the first of many All-Star Games in the future.
