A big weekend of baseball in Bendigo got underway on Saturday, with the 2025 17 & Under State Winter Championships.
Albert Roy Reserve – home of the Falcons and Scots Baseball Clubs – is hosting Division 1 games featuring City West, Dandenong, Diamond Valley, Geelong, and Ringwood.
Strathfieldsaye Dodgers Baseball Club is hosting Division 2 games between Bendigo, Latrobe Valley, North East, and Sunraysia.

Division 1
Progressive ladder (round robin concluding tomorrow): Dandenong, Geelong, Diamond Valley, Ringwood, City West
Dandenong 11, Geelong 1
Hunter Richardson drove in four runs on two hits to lead Dandenong past Geelong 11-1 on Saturday at Albert Roy Reserve. Richardson doubled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring two.
Dandenong won thanks in part to seven runs in the third inning. Alex Francis, Kycen Dowling, Aonghus Walsh drew a walk, and Will Ferguson all drew bases-loaded walks, while Richardson singled to score two and Matt Fielden had an RBI base hit.
Dandenong jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Ferguson singled, scoring one run, and Richardson doubled, scoring two runs. A ground out by Dowling extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second.
Richardson stepped on the bump first for Dandenong. The hurler surrendered two hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking two.
Ash Kaberry led things off on the bump for Geelong. The starter allowed two hits and three runs over one inning, striking out one and walking two.
Walsh led Dandenong with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, totalling 11 walks for the game.
Brandon McDowall went 1-for-1 at the plate and led Geelong with one run batted in. Alex Papadopoulos and McDowall also had one hit while the defense was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Papadopoulos made the most plays with two.
Ringwood 16, Diamond Valley 0
Ringwood won big over Diamond Valley 16-0 on Saturday after scoring in the first on an error, a few bases-loaded walks, and a wild pitch.
Ringwood scored seven runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Harvey Devlin grounded out, Potts singled, and Fleischer doubled, each scoring one run. An error, bases-loaded walk by Alessio Petruzziello, and a 2-RBI single by Thomas Bowden added to their tally.
Ringwood added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Brache walked and a wild pitch scored a run.
Wu started the game for Ringwood, giving up one hit and zero runs over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking one.
Diamond Valley starter Darcy Squire gave up two hits and six runs (zero earned) over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking two.
Petruzziello tossed one and one-third innings of scoreless ball for Ringwood in relief. The hurler allowed one hit, striking out one and walking one.
Bowden went 2-for-2 at the plate and led Ringwood with two runs batted in. Potts and Bowden each collected two hits while Brache paced with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up 11 walks for the game. Marsh stole two bases.
Zaine Parkinson led Diamond Valley with two hits in two at-bats from the leadoff position. Parkinson stole two bases.
Diamond Valley 10, City West 7
Diamond Valley defeated City West 10-7 on Saturday. City West was first on the board when Connor Barrow grounded out, scoring one run.
Diamond Valley flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Darcy Squire that drove in two.
Diamond Valley added five runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. An error scored one run, Samuel Blakely singled, scoring one run, Murphy Carrison singled, scoring two runs, and a wild pitch scored one run.
City West scored five runs on one hit in the top of the third inning. Ben Harbour and Riley Hamling drew bases-loaded walks, and an error scored three runs.
Blakely stepped on the mound first for Diamond Valley. The starter allowed zero hits and one run over one inning, striking out two and walking three. Jordan Bell appeared in relief.
Zayaan Tabish opened the game for City West. The hurler surrendered two hits and four runs over one-third of an inning, striking out one and walking two.
Carrison led Diamond Valley with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The catcher went 1-for-1 on the day. Squire and Bell each collected two hits.
Jacob Kulkens, Joshua Antonacci, Blakely, Bell, and Carrison each stole multiple bases for Diamond Valley.
Meanwhile, Barrow went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead City West in hits. Harbour, Hamling, and Barrow each drove in one run. Hamling took three of the team’s 11 walks and Harbour stole two bases.
Dandenong 8, Ringwood 4
Dandenong beat Ringwood 8-4 on Saturday at Albert Roy Reserve. An error put Ringwood on board in the top of the first.
Dandenong made the score 4-1 in the bottom of the first after Will Mayberry singled, scoring one run, and an error scored three runs.
They added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Ned Richards walked, and Joshua Gunawardana singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Dandenong tacked on two more runs in the third. Hunter Richardson singled down the right field line, making the score 8-1.
Aonghus Walsh stepped on the mound first for Dandenong, allowing three hits and four runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out eight and walking three.
Ringwood starter Keinosuke Lee allowed two hits and four runs (one earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking two.
Richardson provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Dandenong with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Number eight hitter Gunawardana showed the depth of the lineup by leading them with three hits in three at-bats.
Kade Henry took three of Dandenong’s 10 walks for the game and had three out of six stolen bases.
Angus Saggers, Lee, and Jess Marsh each collected one hit for Ringwood while Marsh and Cheng-Yen (Max) Wu each drove in one run.
Geelong 11, Ringwood 3
Toby Arnott drove in four runs on one hit to lead Geelong past Ringwood 11-3 on Saturday at Albert Roy Reserve. Arnott walked in the second inning, scoring one, and doubled in the fifth inning, scoring thre.
Arnott, Lachlan Connors, and Ash Kaberry at the bottom of the lineup combined for four of the team's eight hits in their victory. They scored three runs and drove in five.
Ringwood opened scoring in the first after Keinosuke Lee grounded out, scoring one run. Arnott walked, which helped Geelong tie the game at one in the bottom of the second. A fielder's choice by Angus Saggers gave Ringwood the lead back, making it 2-1 in the top of the third.
Geelong tied it up at two in the bottom of the third after Qasim (Karson) Khan doubled to center field. Ringwood responded in the top of the fourth as Cheng-Yen (Max) Wu grounded out, scoring one run to make it 3-2.
Jacob Young singled, scoring two runs, to give Geelong a 4-3 advantage in the bottom of the fourth.
Geelong scored seven runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kaberry and Alex Papadopoulos drew bases-loaded walks, while Arnott doubled, scoring three runs. Young grounded out and Khan singled, each scoring one run.
Miles Paulley stepped on the hill first for Geelong. The pitcher allowed two hits and two runs over two and one-third innings, striking out none and walking four. Arnott pitched in relief.
Ringwood starter Thomas Bowden gave up six hits and eight runs over four innings, striking out three and walking eight.
Khan and Kaberry each collected two hits for Geelong. Jack Northfield paced the team with three out of 12 total walks.
Jess Marsh and Bowden each collected one hit for Ringwood. Saggers, Lee, and Wu each drove in one run while the defense turned a double play.
Dandenong 16, City West 1
Matt Fielden collected three hits in three at-bats, as Dandenong defeated City West 16-1 on Saturday at Albert Roy Reserve. Fielden singled in the first, second, and third innings.
City West got on the board in the first inning after Chase Messinger singled, scoring one run.
Dandenong flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring seven runs on two hits to take the lead, 7-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Ned Richards that drove in three.
Dandenong battled back, scoring five runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. Fielden singled, scoring one run, Xavier Martine singled, scoring two runs, Shun Thong induced Alex Francis to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and an error scored one run.
A sacrifice fly by Theo Rutgers extended Dandenong's lead to 14-1 in the bottom of the third inning.
Richards started the game for Dandenong, allowing one hit and one run over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Oscar Rey Benguigui and Kycen Dowling each came on in relief and shut down City West.
Dandenong piled up 10 hits in the game. Francis led with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup, while Martine collected two hits in three at-bats. The team totalled nine walks with two apiece for Rutgers and Will Ferguson. Kade Henry stole two bases.
Messinger went 1-for-2 at the plate and led City West with one run batted in.
Division 2
Final ladder after the round robin: Latrobe Valley, Bendigo, North East, Sunraysia
Bendigo 13, North East 4
Bendigo defeated North East 13-4 on Saturday at Stratfieldsaye, thanks in part to seven runs in the first inning. Marcus Murphy doubled, scoring one run, Alex Jones drew a walk, scoring one run, a dropped third strike scored one run, Elliot Harrington singled, scoring one run, and Fynn Murphy singled, scoring two runs.
Bendigo added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when a wild pitch scored two runs, and Jackson Harris grounded out, scoring one run.
A double by Travis Shanahan and a single by Harris helped Bendigo extend their early lead in the third.
Joshua Wells stepped on the bump first for North East. The pitcher gave up six hits and 12 runs (eight earned) over two innings, striking out five and walking six.
Sioeli Parsons threw one inning of shutout ball for Bendigo in relief. The reliever surrendered zero hits, striking out one and walking three.
Murphy, Hudson Castle, and Murphy each collected two hits for Bendigo. Harris and Murphy each drove in two runs, while Deon Strahan led with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting six walks for the game.
Murphy, Castle, Harrington, Shanahan, Murphy, and Strahan each stole multiple bases for Bendigo while the defense turned one double play.
Makayla Pool and Oliver Clear each drove in one run for North East. They had a strong eye at the plate, collecting 11 walks for the game. Cruz Wayneburg, Tanner Godenzi, and Wells led the team with two walks each. North East was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Pool made the most plays with four.
Latrobe Valley 7, Sunraysia 2
Latrobe Valley was victorious against Sunraysia 7-2 on Saturday at Strathfieldsaye.
Sunraysia got on board in the top of the first inning after Zac Scott walked, and Airlei Taylor was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run.
Latrobe Valley flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs on three hits to take the lead, 6-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Alex Smith that drove in two.
Ryan Glass led things off on the bump for Latrobe Valley. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out seven and walking two.
Ryan Evans started on the hill for Sunraysia, allowing three hits and six runs over two and one-third innings, striking out six and walking six.
Jared Thomas pitched one inning of no-run ball for in relief for Latrobe Valley. The reliever allowed zero hits, striking out three and walking none.
Latrobe Valley’s Smith and Thomas were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, both driving in two runs. Jack Thomas paced the side with three out of 12 total walks for the game. Lian Duncan and Riley Duncan each stole multiple bases with seven overall.
Evans led Sunraysia with two hits in three at-bats. Scott, Diesel Fallon, and Taylor each drove in one run.
Latrobe Valley 14, North East 2
Latrobe Valley won 14-2 over North East on Saturday. NE opened scoring in the first after Angus Weal singled, scoring one run.
Latrobe Valley flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs on two hits to take the lead, 7-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Harrison Kus that drove in two.
Latrobe Valley added seven runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Connor McKenzie singled, scoring two runs, Taylor Jones induced Kus to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Jack Thomas drew a walk, scoring one run, and Alex Smith singled, scoring three runs.
Morgan McConville led things off on the bump for Latrobe Valley. The pitcher surrendered four hits and one run over three innings, striking out three and walking four. Coadhey Rebbechi appeared in relief.
Weal stepped on the bump first for North East. The starter allowed four hits and 10 runs (six earned) over one inning, striking out none and walking six.
Latrobe Valley’s Smith, McKenzie, Riley Duncan, Jared Thomas, and Kus each collected one hit. Kus went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Thomas led with two out of the team’s eight walks and also stole three bases, with nine overall in the game.
Michael Nistico and Weal were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for North East. Nistico, Ryan Brockwell, and Weal each collected two hits.
Bendigo 12, Sunraysia 7
Bendigo defeated Sunraysia 12-7 on Saturday. They got on the board in the top of the first inning after Marcus Murphy singled, scoring one run, Riley Harrington singled, scoring two runs, and two wild pitches scored three more.
Bendigo added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Sunraysia committed an error and a wild pitch, each scoring one run.
Sunraysia scored six runs on one hit in the bottom of the second inning. Lucas Currie drew a walk, Ryan Evans singled, and Josh Pelltz, Riely Halupka, and Diesel Fallon walked, each scoring a run. A wild pitch brought home another.
Bendigo added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Teagan Hando drew a walk, scoring one run, Mason Strahan singled, scoring two runs, and Murphy grounded out, scoring one run.
Hudson Castle led things off on the hill for Bendigo. The starter allowed two hits and seven runs (six earned) over two innings, striking out four and walking seven.
Reece R Scott started the game for Sunraysia. The starter surrendered two hits and eight runs (six earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking seven.
Deon Strahan threw one inning of shutout ball for Bendigo in relief. The pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out three and walking two.
Harrington drove the middle of the lineup, leading Bendigo with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-2 on the day.
Harrington, Murphy, and Strahan each collected one hit for Bendigo. The team had strong eyes at the plate, tallying 11 walks for the game. Hando, Alaric Tibbett, Archer Etherton, and Padriag Entwistle-McGowan led the team with two walks each.
Murphy, Strahan, Hando, Tibbett, Etherton, Sioeli Parsons, and Entwistle-McGowan each stole multiple bases for Bendigo.
Fallon drove the middle of the lineup, leading Sunraysia with two runs batted in. Fallon went 1-for-1 on the day. Evans also had one hit, while Currie led with two of the team’s nine walks.
North East 20, Sunraysia 4
Angus Weal drove in four runs on one hit to lead North East past Sunraysia 20-4 on Saturday at Strathfieldsaye. Weal singled in the first scoring one and took bases-loaded walks in the second and third.
North East got on board in the top of the first inning after Weal singled down the left field line, and Joshua Wells grounded out, each scoring one run.
North East added seven runs on four hits in the top of the second inning. Sophie Berry drew a walk, Tanner Godenzi singled, Weal drew a walk, and Cruz Wayneburg hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Wells doubled, scoring two runs, and Ryan Brockwell singled, scoring one run.
Seven more runs scored in the top of the third. Godenzi and Weal drew bases-loaded walks and Wayneburg singled, scoring two runs. Makayla Pool, Brockwell, and Michael Nistico also drew walks to bring runners home.
Wayneburg led things off on the mound for North East. The starter gave up three hits and two runs (one earned) over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking one. Godenzi and Berry each threw scoreless innings in relief.
Diesel Fallon started on the hill for Sunraysia. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and three runs over one inning, striking out none and walking one.
Brockwell, Nistico, and Godenzi each collected two hits for North East. Brockwell and Weal each drove in four runs while Liam Cathie and Berry led the team with three walks apiece. Brockwell and Weal stole multiple bases with seven total in the game. The defense turned a double play, too.
Josh Pelltz led Sunraysia with one run batted in. The infielder went 2-for-2 on the day. The defense was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Pelltz had the most fielding chances with two.
Latrobe Valley 12, Bendigo 1
Latrobe Valley outlasted Bendigo 12-1 on Saturday. LV scored in the top of the first on an RBI single by Jared Thomas and a sacrifice fly by Coadhey Rebbechi that scored three. Lian Duncan singled, scoring two more runs.
Latrobe Valley added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Jack Thomas hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs, and Thomas grounded out, scoring one run.
Jackson Harris stepped on the mound first for Bendigo, allowing three hits and four runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking one.
Rebbechi led things off on the mound for Latrobe Valley, giving up two hits and one run over four innings, striking out three and walking two.
Mason Strahan led Bendigo with one run batted in. The infielder went 1-for-1 on the day. Travis Shanahan also had a hit whileDeon Strahan stole two bases.
Latrobe Valley tallied 10 hits in the game. Duncan led with three hits in three at-bats from the leadoff position. Thomas and Harrison Kus each stole multiple bases with seven total in the game. They also worked the count all day, collecting seven walks. The defense turned one double play and didn't commit a single error. Thomas made the most plays with five.
