SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, PA. The Aussie’s could not surmount Mexico Region’s nine-run explosion in the first inning, battling through a 14-3 loss, to end their LLWS competition play.
Mexico scored in the first on an RBI double by Gerardo Lujano, an RBI single by Raul Leon, a walk by Daniel Zaragoza, a two-run double by Andres Villa, a two-run single by Jorge Armenta, an error, and a wild pitch.
Mexico hit three home runs in the win. Home runs for Mexico came when Damian Garcia homered in the second inning, Armenta homered in the third inning, and Alberto Bustos homered in the fourth inning.
It was not for lake of effort by the Australian side, securing six hits against Hector Sanchez’s dominant pitching. The runs went to William Fullerton, Jake Burns and Lachlan Regan, with Blake Cavill digging in for the side with two hits and one RBI.
Luke Krkovski took the loss for Australia. He allowed 11 runs in two innings, walked one and struck out two.
It has been a successful Series for the local Sydney team, finishing with a 1-2 win loss record, equaling Australia’s best LLWS effort.
Cronulla’s joyous 3-0 win over the Caribbean on Saturday was a save for Australia in the double-elimination bracket, after losing their first game 5-2 to Latin America Region on Friday. Jake burns also hit a home run in that game, a 260-foot shot to left-center in the fourth inning to tie it at 2.
The team will remain in Williamsport for the last week of the Little League World Series, playing scratch matches and continuing the off-field festivities with the other teams in The Grove accommodation precinct and Stadium.
