In their third game at the 21U IBAF World Cup, Australia had a convincing win over Venezuela. Defeating the South American country 14-1 in a 7-inning knockout.
Venezuela threatened with the first run on the board in the third, but Australia fought back immediately. Adding their own two runs the same inning, a result of aggressive base running and singles from Jacob Younis and Ben Lodge.
While Venezuela remained scoreless for the rest of the game, Australia added two in the 4th, four in the 5th and continued their scoring streak with six runs in the 6th. Guy Edmonds and Jacob Younis were hot with the bat with doubles, and Adam Silva was on fire with two massive triples.
Aaron Thompson did an outstanding job on the mound, pitching the first 6 innings, only giving up 3 hits and awarding him the win. Lachlan Madden came in to close out the game, pitching the 7th and not allowing any hits.
Manager Tony Harris thought the team "played a good game, we were aggressive and saw outstanding pitching from Aaron Thompson. It was his first time wearing the green and gold and he kept the hitters at bay. The team as a whole were aggressive in both the batters box and on the bases.
We are excited to be progressing to the second round and are ready for the challenge. We need to keep up the momentum and play aggressive baseball".
