2016 was Australian Little League’s watershed year, as for the first time, Australian teams represented at the Senior League, Junior League and Little League World Series’.
Above mere representation on the world stage, Australia’s team’s shone, with Hills Little League proving themselves as no easy-beats. Hills put in the greatest performance at a Little League World Series ever by an Australian team, with two wins seeing them finish in the top eight for the first time.
Lismore’s Albert Park Baseball Complex is cementing itself as one of the best regional baseball centres in Australia, and the relationship built between Baseball Australia and the Lismore City Council and the Far North Coast Baseball Association is continually thriving, stamping Lismore as a long-term destination for Little League Baseball.
The Australian Senior League Championship made it’s debut on the Baseball Australia events calendar in 2016, and proved to be a great success, with the champs, Victoria’s Southern Mariners winning their way all the way to the Senior League World Series Championship Game.
For the second year in a row, the Australian Junior League Championship will be held at Diamond Sports SA, in West Beach, South Australia. Diamond Sports SA has recently become the home of the Adelaide Bite in the Australian Baseball League.
Baseball Australia’s Head of Little League and National Championships Mathew Sundstrom is excited to see what the 2017 Little League Championships can offer.
"These events are continuing to grow in scale each year, showing why this is an exciting time for Little League in Australia,” Sundstrom said.
"Over the course of 18 days, Little Leaguers ages 10 to 17 from around Australia will play more than 154 baseball games to determine 3 Australian champions, displaying why these Championships are a highlight on Baseball Australia's event calendar. It’s great to have the continued support of Bendigo Bank in our Little League program, who provide such invaluable support to grass roots baseball in Australia."
