Baseball Victoria looks forward to entering an all-girls charter team in the 2023 Little League Development State Championships at Knox on 21-23 April.

This all-girls team may have the opportunity to represent at the Little League National Championships in Division 2.

We are looking for a few more coaches to support this team – please submit expressions of interest HERE.

Bacchus Marsh Baseball Club has announced the appointment of Bronwyn Gell as head coach going into the 2023 winter season.

With 20 years of baseball experience under her belt, Gell is looking ahead to this new role as the Tigers hope to reach the grand final again this winter.

Gell is one of just a few females appointed to a head club coaching position in Victoria. She's also serving as assistant coach to the Victorian Youth Women's State Team ahead of the national championships this April.

Gell moved to Bacchus Marsh in 2021, starting her own occupational therapy practice Driven By You, and finding a new baseball home with the Tigers.

She's no stranger to on-field success, having first represented Victoria in 2008 at the age of 14. She earned Golden Glove and VP honours with the Victorian Women's State Team at the Australian Women's Championship last year.

Gell has also played for the Australian National Women's Baseball team, representing the Emeralds at five international events with two World Cup medals and a 2012 Stolen Bases award. With two VSBL Women's Division 1 batting titles to her name, she has impressed on the field and now looks forward to furthering her coaching career.

She has the Tigers' full support as the club hopes to grow the number of teams and overall participation.

“With Bronwyn’s very strong background in baseball, we will improve the baseball abilities of all our members," Club President Greg Tinkler said. "Part of the growth of any club needs to be not just players to build the number of teams, but for volunteers; those individuals helping out in the canteen, scoring, and umpiring. We will also work this year to build a women’s team and at least one junior team."

Follow the Tigers on Facebook for more updates leading into the season.

After the success of the inaugural Rake by the Lake last January, St Kilda Baseball Club will again play host to Melbourne’s biggest Home Run Derby.

This Labour Day, 13 March, the championship belt and $1,000 cash will be back up for grabs, with nominations now open for what will be an invite-only event.

The winner-takes-all contest is expected to bring together a field of Baseball Victoria’s best power hitters and, with some ABL stars potentially in the mix, competition will be fierce!

Last year, the Melbourne Aces’ Jack Barrie (now with Auckland Tuatara) claimed the title in the grand final over Williamstown’s Justin Gourlay, while St Kilda’s Marcel McFall and Melbourne Ace Darryl George fell in the semis.

St Kilda Baseball Club President Todd Clarkson said this year’s event is shaping up to be even better.

“We’re partnering with some local businesses and our own club members to bring an improved fan experience on the day, and the new invitational format means we’re expecting more dingers, more often!

“It’s a great day with plenty for kids to get involved in and we know from last year the derby itself is a great spectacle for casual fans and baseball fanatics.”

Baseball Victoria is excited to announce the Victorian Youth Women’s State Team roster, filled with exciting young talent who will play for the #AYWC2023 Simone Wearne Cup at Melbourne Ballpark this April.

“Thank you to all the awesome girls who tried out for the team. It was great to see such strength throughout the tryouts and we are proud of each and every one of these players,” BV Youth Women’s Head Coach Dean Anglin said. “We look forward to the next few months of training and preparing leading up to the tournament, and we can’t wait to play at Melbourne Ballpark as we chase the cup.”

The 2023 Australian Youth Women’s Championship will run from Saturday 8 April to Tuesday 11 April, coinciding with the Australian Women’s Championship from Friday 7 April to Thursday 13 April.

“Congratulations to all our youth women’s players who will suit up for Victoria at the Australian Youth Women’s Championship,” BV CEO Chet Gray said. “We are so excited to have this event back in Victoria, and we look forward to the reintroduction of the youth women’s tournament after last year’s Australian Youth Invitational. Best of luck to these representatives as their training program gets underway.”

Victoria previously won the Australian Youth Women’s Championship in 2018.
