On Sunday, 25 April 2021, we acknowledge Anzac Day and the sacrifices of all those who have served our country.
The baseball family will commemorate the ANZAC ceremonies and we confirm that community sport can be conducted before 1pm so long as there is no charge to attend the event. Spectator events are only permitted after 1pm.

Baseball Victoria has several updates to the Board including the appointment of three new directors.
Rob Stanley, Amy McCann, and Matt Nichol have been appointed to the board to fill casual vacancies, which will be ratified at the AGM.
- Rob Stanley will join as the Finance Director and chair the Finance and Audit Committee. Stanley is an accountant and has a background in finance at several sporting organisations including Cricket Australia. “I am really looking forward to the opportunity to use my experience to help Baseball Victoria and seeing where we can take the sport over the next few years,” Stanley said. “I’m also keen to work with my fellow directors to ensure the sport remains strong for the Victorian baseball community.”
- Amy McCann joins with extensive baseball playing experience including state and national teams. McCann is starting her broadcasting career and was part of the recent Women’s Super Saturday Livestream. “It is an honour to be joining the Board of Baseball Victoria as it embarks on a new strategic plan,” McCann said. “I am keen to apply the unique insight and knowledge gained from three decades in baseball as a player and coach across all levels, in addition to my professional experience working in the sporting industry at the national and international level.”
- Matt Nichol has worked within the Melbourne Winter Baseball structure, with many years of playing and administrative experience. “I am excited to join the Baseball Victoria Board and bring my experience to the table to benefit the organisation and our baseball community,” Nichol said. “I look forward to working alongside my fellow directors and supporting Victorian baseball as we plan strategically for the future.”
Myles Foreman will be stepping down from the role of Baseball Victoria President and resigning as a director at the upcoming annual general meeting on Tuesday, 20 April 2021 after six years in the role and eight years on the Board. Baseball Victoria is thankful for Myles and his countless contributions to baseball over the years unfortunately, Myles' term of office as President concludes at this AGM in accordance with the Constitution.
Director Sam Taylor has resigned from his Directors position, creating an additional casual vacancy.

Little League Major
Southern Mariners 8 v Twins 7
The Twins made a great effort to come back from down five runs in the sixth inning but came up just short, falling 8-7 to Southern Mariners on Sunday. Twins scored four runs in the failed comeback on a double by Lachlan Brennan, a double by Oliver Baillargeon, and a double by Cooper Bishop-Worn.
Twins was right in it until Southern Mariners singled in the fifth inning.
Southern Mariners got things started in the first inning when Harrison Brodie reached on a dropped third strike.
In the top of the third inning, Southern Mariners tied things up at two. An error scored one run for Southern Mariners.
After Southern Mariners scored four runs in the top of the sixth, Twins answered with four of their own. Southern Mariners scored when Jack Thomas doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, Jarvis Johansen grounded out, scoring one run, and an error scored one run for Southern Mariners. Twins then answered when Brennan doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs, Baillargeon doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, and Bishop-Worn doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Brooklyn Riwaka was on the pitcher's mound for Southern Mariners. Riwaka lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out nine and walking zero.

Southern Mariners defeated Eastern Athletics 8-0 on Sunday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Tyler Ellis struck out Ned Hargreaves to finish off the game.
Southern Mariners secured the victory thanks to five runs in the second inning. Thomas Yuile, Lachlan Smith, Charlie Pierson, and Ellis all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
Southern Mariners got on the board in the second inning when Yuile singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Eastern Athletics secured the victory thanks to 13 runs in the first inning. Luke Hutton, Samuel Walk, Ethan Hilhorst, Joshua Antonacci, Oliver Hill, and Ethan Johnston all drove in runs in the frame.
Eastern Athletics got things started in the first inning when Bardia Nikakhtar threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for Eastern Athletics.
Southern Mariners scored six runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught by Southern Mariners was led by Cai Batey-Smith, Liam Puncher, Lucas Tucker, and Hunter Richardson, all driving in runs in the inning.
Hilhorst was on the mound for Eastern Athletics. The hurler lasted three innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out two and walking one.

Senior League
Eastern Athletics 14 v Twins 3
Eastern Athletics claimed a 14-3 victory on Friday, despite a big push by Twins in the third inning. Jack Hotere-Moana and Declan Speirs each had RBIs in the inning.
The Athletics scored three runs when Evan Maury tripled in the first.
James Squire was on the mound for the winning side. The fireballer went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out one and walking zero.
Lachlan Amon started the game for Twins. The pitcher allowed five hits and seven runs over one inning, striking out one. Hunter Arnel, Ashton Coote, and Mace Poole each contributed in relief for Twins.
Eastern Athletics racked up ten hits. Maury and Matthew Johnston all managed multiple hits for Eastern Athletics. Johnston and Maury all had two hits to lead Eastern Athletics. Eastern Athletics didn't commit a single error in the field. Finley Ronalds-Greatbatch had the most chances in the field with four. Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Friday in a high-scoring affair where Southern Mariners bested Twins, 16-6.
Southern Mariners secured the victory thanks to ten runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Charlie Pierson, Lachlan Smith, Ryan Willams, and Lachlan Stevens, a walk by Pierson, and a sac fly by Mitchell Denny.
Southern Mariners pulled away for good with ten runs in the third inning. In the third Pierson singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Smith singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs, Willams singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs, Denny's sac fly scored one run for Southern Mariners, Pierson drew a walk, scoring one run, and Stevens singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Twins scored three runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower by Twins was led by Declan Speirs and Addison Bishop-Worn, all driving in runs in the inning.

Eastern Athletics opened up scoring in the first inning, when Noble singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
Chislett led things off on the pitcher's mound for Eastern Athletics. The hurler lasted two innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking zero.
Cooper Laurie led things off on the mound for Geelong Baycats. The bulldog allowed five runs on one hit. Reuben Brewer, Tyson Sherry, Hunter Mann, and Prabh Waris Sodhi each entered the game as relief, throwing two innings, one inning, one-third of an inning, and one-third of an inning respectively.
Declan Bardsley went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Eastern Athletics in hits.
Geelong Baycats 0 v Twins 12
Twins defeated Geelong Baycats 12-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Devin Leahy struck out Prabh Waris Sodhi to finish off the game.
Twins got things started in the first inning when an error scored one run for Twins.
Twins notched six runs in the fourth inning. Nathan Rumbelow, Ashton Locklier, Lachlan Schumann, and William Hardy all drove in runs in the frame.
A single by Tyson Sherry in the first inning was a positive for Geelong Baycats.

Southern Mariners lost the lead late in a 14-8 defeat to Twins on Friday. The game was tied at five with Twins batting in the top of the sixth when William Hardy drew a walk, scoring one run.
Despite the loss, Southern Mariners did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Twins had eight hits on the way to victory.
Twins opened up scoring in the second inning when Andrew Land singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Southern Mariners tied things up at five. Southern Mariners scored two runs when Liam Bald doubled.
Twins scored six runs in the seventh inning. The big inning for Twins came thanks to doubles by Land and Patariki Pouaka-Grego, a walk by Nathan Rumbelow, and a home run by Alex Liersch.

Eastern Athletics scored seven runs in the third inning. Eastern Athletics's big inning was driven by a single by Zak Stafilis, a groundout by Frances Scott Mackereth, an error on a ball put in play by Ezra Ferguson, and a double by Johnston.

Southern Mariners took the lead late in the game in an 18-17 victory over the Twins on Friday. The game was tied at 18 with the Twins batting in the top of the seventh when Patrick Matthews singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
A seven-run lead in the fifth inning was just enough for Southern Mariners to hold off the Twins for the victory. The Twins tallied 15 runs in the failed comeback with RBIs from Austin Caulfield, Liam Coster, James Dinham, Matthews, and William Cashen.
The Twins opened up scoring in the second inning when an error scored one run.
In the top of the sixth inning, Twins tied things up at 17 when Cashen doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.
Southern Mariners tallied ten runs in the fifth inning. The rally was led by walks by Lucas Tucker, Kendra Rutgers, Miller Leech, Theo Rutgers, and Bardia Nikakhtar and singles by Harper Slattery and Tucker.
Tucker led things off on the mound for Southern Mariners. The fireballer surrendered 17 runs on 23 hits over six innings, striking out one and walking one.

Former Doncaster and Greenhills Montmorency pitcher Lewis Thorpe has been recalled by Minnesota and will make his 2021 MLB season debut in a start against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday morning.
The Twins called Thorpe up on Friday morning to start in game one of their series against the Angels at Angels Stadium.
Thorpe will be making his fourth career MLB start and 20th appearance for Minnesota overall.
The Victorian went 0-1 with a 6.06 ERA in seven appearances, including one start, in 2020.
Thorpe is 3-3 with a 6.14 ERA in his MLB career.
The Twins sent the 25-year-old lefty down ahead of Opening Day.
Thorpe made five Spring Training appearances, posting a 2.35 ERA and WHIP of 0.78.
First pitch is scheduled for 11.38 AEST.

The 2021 Victorian Masters Baseball Carnival concluded at Geelong Baseball Centre on Sunday with three teams earning grand final glory.
Congratulations to the Big Cat Tomatoes (45+ and 50+) and the Pandas (35+) on their big wins!

50+ Division
Sloths 7 v Bees 11
The Bees opened the morning with six runs, and despite giving up two in bottom half, they were able to keep rolling from there. The Bees scored three in the third and two in the third.
The Sloths weren't going down without a fight, managing five runs in the bottom of the fourth although the Bees still came away with the win.
Ross Hornstra and Andrew Hamilton pitched for the Bees while Sean O'Halloran handled pitching duties for the Sloths.
Doncaster 2 v Tassy Tigers 19
The Tigers won 20-3 over the Sloths on Day 2 and won in similar fashion over Doncaster. Tassy scored in four of the five innings while Doncaster got just two on the board in the final frame.
Tassy's big innings included two in the first, six in the second, four in the third, and seven in the fifth.
Doncaster 11 v Gold Diggers 4
The Gold Diggers picked up two runs at the top of the first to kickstart proceedings in the game against Doncaster though the home side went ahead by two runs after scoring four at the bottom.
Doncaster added five to its score at the bottom of the second, while the Gold Diggers got one back in the top of the third. They scored another in the fifth inning but Doncaster's hitters weren't done, scoring two more at the bottom to see the game out.
Neil Southwell was the starter for Doncaster, assisted by Dale Robertson in relief in the fifth.
Geoff Freeman got the start, finishing two innings on the mound for the Gold Diggers. Wayne Pollock came on as relief in the third while Bill Leropoulos entered in the fifth.
Big Cat Tomatoes 4 v Coburg 3
Coburg ran out to a three-run lead during the second inning after a two-run first dig, managing to shut down the opposition bats for three innings.
After Coburg's three runs, the Tomatoes came back into the game with two runs at the bottom of the fourth.
The strong defense ensured Coburg didn't steer further ahead and the Tomatoes went into the bottom needing two runs to win, which they managed for a big victory.
David Rosser spent the entire game on the mound for Big Cat Tomatoes, while David Simpson and John McBride shared the duties for Coburg.
Sandringham 7 v Pandas 8
Darren Wilcox, Marshall Skinner, and Keith Klein handled pitching for Sandringham as the team came within one.
The Pandas had Michael Alldis and Greg Buzza on the mound with Rob Barnes catching behind the plate.
The Pandas led 2-1 after the first and extended their advantage by one in the second and four in the third. The fourth inning saw the Pandas score one while Sandringham got two. Sandringham scored another four in the bottom of the fifth but fell by just one run as the Pandas kept up the pace to get into finals.
Final: Pandas 4 v Big Cat Tomatoes 6
The Pandas finished atop the ladder but lost out to the Tomatoes in the final as the Big Cats stayed undefeated. The winners scored five in the first and one in the fifth while giving up one in the second and three in the fourth.
Rob Hogan pitched until David Rosser came in for the Tomatoes in the fifth. The Pandas had Michael Alldis on the mound for four before Kyle Murrells entered in the fifth.
45+ DIVISION
Rebels 14 v Fitzroy 3
Fitzroy scored three runs at the top of the first but that's where the offence finished for the side as the Rebels closed them out for the remainder of the game.
The Rebels fought ahead after scoring five runs at the bottom of the first inning, earning an 11-run lead at the completion of three. They finished the game in the fourth with three more runners scoring to claim victory.
Rebels pitcher Anthony Sullivan was on the mound through the entire four innings and did well with the defense behind him.
Darren Hill started for Fitzroy until he was swapped for Paul Blakeney in the fourth inning.
Big Cat Tomatoes 12 v Gold Diggers 2
The Tomatoes scored four to start the game and kept it going from there, adding one in the third and seven in the fourth as Chris Nicholas and Mark Jones were solid on the mound. This result marked their fourth win of the weekend.
The Gold Diggers scored one in the fourth and one in the fifth with Richard King on the mound.
Rebels 3 v Sloths 14
The Sloths sealed the deal on their trip to the final with a comprehensive performance over the Rebels thanks to a few good innings. They finished with three wins going into last game of the day.
Final: Big Cat Tomatoes 8 v Sloths 2
The Tomatoes had Simon Pole and Simon Ratcliffe on the mound as they finished the tournament in style with a six-run win.
Steve Ellis and Grant Taylor pitched for the Sloths but the Tomatoes proved too much to handle as they scored one run in both the first and the second before a two-run fourth and a one-run fifth. They scored three final runs in the sixth while the Sloths offence managed one in the second and one in the sixth.
35+ Division
Tip Rats 2 v Sloths 8
The Sloths kept their finals hopes alive with a win over the Tip Rats, although the Rats got two on the board to start.
The Sloths were behind by two until the fourth when they tied the game, and eventually pulled ahead by six in the fifth. Cam Williams followed Gavin Smith's turn on the mound for the winning side while Luke Sherwell, Paul Cameron, and Trevor Elliot threw for the Tip Rats.
Cods 10 v Doncaster 3
The Cods worked their way to an early two-run lead and by the end of the second, they were ahead by seven. One more run came around in the third while Doncaster avoided the shutout by scoring three in the fifth.
Pandas 21 v Rebels 0
The Pandas put together two seven-run innings to open the game, adding three more in the third and a final four in the fourth while shutting the Rebels out. The Pandas also booked their place in the final.
Bald Eagles 5 v Red Sox 4
The Red Sox missed out on a spot in the finals as the Bald Eagles came back to win it in the last two innings. The Red Sox were in a good position with Luke Hornstra and Davis Long pitching and the offense taking a 1-0 lead in the second.
The Red Sox briefly led 2-0 in the fifth before the Bald Eagles turned the game around, scoring three in the fifth. The Red Sox fought back with two in the top of the second, but the Bald Eagles were right there with two more to seal the deal.
Troy Waterman and Warren Attard pitched for the winning side as they finished fourth.
Final: Pandas 11 v Sloths 1
The Sloths got one on the board to start the game but soon gave up seven to the Pandas. The eventual winners went on to score two more in both the second and the third.
David Morris, Daniel Conway-Jones and Brendan Robinson pitched for the Sloths while Cameron Forbes, Ross Hipke, and Russell Spear threw for the Pandas.

Inclement weather has affected the final day of the Baseball Victoria Little League State Championships with intermittent heavy rain, consistent showers, thunder and lighting preventing the start of games this morning.
The Little League Development League concluded without play on Sunday, 11 April and the winner was awarded on the standings, with the Twins Team, having won three out of four of their games, declared the Little League Development Champions.
The Little League Major Semi-Finals (1v4,2v3 and the subsequent 3v4) were not able to be completed and therefore Southern Mariners (#1) and the Twins (#2) progress to the finals based on the standings.
The Little League Major Championship rescheduled game will take place on Sunday, 18 April 2021 at Werribee at 8am.
