A seven-run second inning propelled Cronulla to gold at the 2018 Australian Senior League Championship presented by Bendigo Bank.
Cronulla capped off an outstanding week in Lismore with a 7-3 win over the Adelaide Titans, earning the right to represent the Australia Region at the 2018 Senior League World Series in Easley, South Carolina.
The Titans struck first as they looked to become the second-straight South Australian charter to claim Senior League glory.
Liam Bull’s two-out single scored Tom Walsh in the top of the first.
Cronulla hit back in a big way during the second.
They drew level on a Bailey Curtis single before Jarrod Psaras doubled to clear the bases and hand Cronulla a 4-1 advantage.
Myles Chabi, Joshua Pearl and Kobi Paynter drove in runs to extend Cronulla’s lead to six runs.
Adelaide was unable to fight back with Pearl solid on the mound for Cronulla.
The starter struck out 11 and scattered four hits across 5 1/3 innings.
The Titans capitalised on Pearl’s exit from the game, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.
Cronulla will head to South Carolina for the Senior League World Series later this year, following in the footsteps of the Southern Mariners and Adelaide Armada.
