The 2014 ENEOS presents VI IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup officially began yesterday in Miyazaki, Japan.
Following the opening ceremony, the Emeralds played Japan in front of a crowd of 8,500 at Sun Marine Stadium. The Emeralds fell to Japan 14-0, allowing Japan to continue their 7 game winning streak. Christina Kreppold did threaten in the first with a massive hit to right field just short of the fence, but the Emeralds were unable to capitalize on the hit.
The team has spent weeks preparing for the World Cup and Manager Simone Wearne is confident the team will play well in the next game against Venezuela.
The Emerald’s will play their second game at 4:30 pm (5:30 pm AEST) today against Venezuela. Venezuela defeated Hong Kong in their opening game 5-4, sending a run across the plate in the bottom of the 7th to win the game.
