Gold Coast’s offence erupted on the back of a stellar start by Oscar Hyde to claim gold at the 2018 Bendigo Bank Australian Little League Championship in Lismore.
The Cougars were emphatic 11-0 winners over the Adelaide Seahawks, earning the right to represent Australia Region at the 2018 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, later this year.
Hyde punched out nine Seahawks and did not allow a hit in four stunning innings on the mound.
He worked with an early lead as Gold Coast scored four runs in the first.
Jake Calver’s two-run single opened the scoring before another two runs scored.
Zach Smith added to the Cougars’ lead with a two-run single of his own and William Baker put the lead out to 10 runs with a three-run homer in the bottom of the third.
Baker finished with four runs batted in, while Calver drove in three.
Adelaide starter Nicholas Paparella finished with four strikeouts.
Gold Coast Cougars will now represent the Australia Region at the 2018 Little League World Series later this year.
