Mark your calendars for the Victorian Masters Carnival, a beloved baseball tradition since 1997. Set for 24-26 March, this is the carnival’s 27th year, having not being played in 2020 due to COVID. The upcoming tournament returns to original host Ballarat, home to a long and successful history of masters baseball.
There were 25 men’s teams in 2022, and this year’s numbers have increased to 36 teams, including five Over 30’s women’s teams. Players are coming from all over Australia to compete in the fun, playing a minimum of four games over three days.
BV Umpire Officers have introduced a new initiative to recruit, train, and mentor umpires at the Masters Carnival. It’s been great to see interest from masters players who want to join our umpiring fraternity, and the carnival is an excellent opportunity to keep experienced baseballers involved in this great game we love.
Organiser Rick Trezise is looking forward to the event and hopes to see a strong turnout of baseball veterans.
“The Masters Tournament has kept baseball alive and well in Ballarat for over a quarter of a century, and along with endless Ballarat baseball photo memorabilia in the Alfredton baseball clubrooms, it is a must to see for ‘old baseball history buffs’. The Victorian Masters Carnival is three days of great baseball, plenty of stories, and catching up with old mates.”
