Top of the 1st- Gell started it for Essendon with a walk then stole 2nd with one out and she advanced to third on a “hit and run” ground out from Pedersen. Abbey Kelly got a two out RBI single to left and advanced to second on a pass ball. Megan Kelly then hit into the hole at short to make it 1st and 3rd occupied and Page walked to load them up. Jackson absorbed the pressure and got an infield pop-up to end it. Essendon lead 1-0.
Bottom of the first and Lillywhite lead off with a double over the right fielder’s head, then Manzie-Novotney advanced her on a bunt that she nearly beat at 1st. Hough scored Lillywhite on an error and Row got on after another wild throw. With 1st and 3rd occupied Jackson hit to centre to score another run. Matsuo singled to load the bases and with pressure on Essendon turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the innings.
Springvale lead 2-1.
Top 2nd and French lead off with a walk. Jackson threw a strikeout to get back to the top of the Essendon batting order. There was a pop-up to centre for the second out, then another in right to send the game into the bottom of the second.
Bottom 2 and Wearne got on with an error. A flyball to left was the first out and that brought up the top of the Springvale batting order. Lillywhite got her second hit of the day to advance Wearne to 3rd on a hit and run play. Manzie-Novotney scored an RBI on a sacfly to increase the Lions lead to 2. Hough singled to score Lillywhite who had advanced to second on wild throw to the plate. Springvale 4, Essendon 1. Row walked to make it first and second occupied with two out. Jackson then singled to left and scored Hough but Gerogia Page made a good running catch in foul territory to end it. Essendon 1, Springvale 5
Top 3 and Abbey Kelly started it off with a one out single to centre then stole second. Megan Kelly then singled to right and stole 2nd to make it second and third occupied. Page also singled to left and batted in A Kelly. Manzie-Novotney picked off Megan Kelly at third from the dish and Jackson ended it with a strikeout. Essendon 2, Springvale 5.
Bottom 3 and Loon lead off with a double to deep centre and Wearne walked. Tobias came in for Garnett but struck out then Lillywhite walked to load the bases. Manzie-Novotney singled to right and batted in two and it was first and third occupied with one out when Abbey Kelly took the mound from French for Essendon. Hough belted a long double to the left field corner to clear the bases then Row singled to make it first and third occupied with one out. Jackson hit again to score Hough and make the score 10 and Matsuo singled for another RBI. Jackson scored on a wild pitch to make it 12. Wearne singled and Matsuo scored on a pass ball with two out. Garnett walked to the vacant first base to make it first and second occupied for Lillywhite who doubled to deep left to make the score 14-2.
Top of the fourth and Row took the mound from Jackson for Springvale. French got HBP and was out on a fielder’s choice at second. Gell got on after an error to make it first and second occupied. Deeble advanced the runners with a groundout then Pedersen hit hard to score her on an error. Abbey Kelly singled to left to score another and take the Bomber’s score to 4. Lillywhite threw long from short and combined well with Garnett who picked the ball out of the dirt for the third out.
Bottom of the fourth and Page continued on the mound for Essendon. Hough lead off with a single to right just out of reach of the fielder. Row walked, then there was fielder’s choice play at second for the first out and a pop-up to short for the second. Loon got on with an error and scored two. Atkins came in to bat for Wearne of Springvale and walked then Essendon finished it with groundout at third. Score now 16-4.
Top of the fifth and Row was right on target getting two strikeouts swinging and a pop-up to centre. That ended the game on the ten run, mercy, rule.
A great performance by Springvale with pitching from Jackson and hitting from her, Lillywhite, Hough, Row and Loon.
