Victoria will enjoy greater freedoms from 6:00pm tonight as Victoria reaches the 80 percent double dose vaccination target and metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria unite and move forward under the same restrictions. This is welcome news for the Victorian baseball community, as Baseball Victoria can confirm the return to community sport competition and the start of the 2021/22 VSBL season next month.
The Baseball Victoria Return to Play COVIDSafe Plan will be updated following further clarification from the government so clubs can provide this plan to their respective councils.
As part of Victoria’s Roadmap to Deliver the National Plan, the changes coming into effect at 6:00pm on Friday 29 October 2021 include:
Travel allowed between regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne.
All retail opens and greater density limits for pubs, clubs, and entertainment venues.
10 people including dependents can visit your home per day and 30 people can gather in public outside.
Community sport permitted indoors and outdoors, regardless of vaccination status, with minimum number required, for spectators public gathering limits apply.
Masks will remain mandatory indoors but are no longer required outdoors, although it is highly recommended to wear a mask outdoors where you cannot socially distance.
As a reminder, Baseball Victoria clubs must comply with CHO directions and any additional directions of your landowners.
This return to community sport is for the minimum required only, so for baseball this means up to 20 people, including necessary coaches or administration staff. Two groups of 20 people can train on the same baseball field if they remain separated for the entire training session.
Baseball Victoria follows Victorian Government COVIDSafe Settings, and all clubs must adhere to social distancing and personal hygiene measures while training.
The Victorian Government has released updated CHO COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions confirming there is an exemption for community sport volunteers so while vaccination is strongly recommended, it is not required.
Service Victoria QR code check-ins are required for businesses, including community sport organisations. Clubs must maintain an attendance register and COVID-19 restriction compliance documentation.
All clubs need council approval to access their facilities and return to training. We have opened the return to play registration, which all participants must complete before taking the field.
“Thanks to Victoria’s efforts in reaching our roadmap milestones and vaccination targets, we are pleased to be in a position to proceed with a 13 November start date for the 2021/22 VSBL season,” Baseball Victoria Interim CEO Gemma Scales said. “We are so excited to return to training and get ready for play in just a few weeks, as our clubs and members have been waiting patiently for good news. We remain committed to providing the safest experience for all baseballers, and we look forward to a safe and successful summer season.”
Baseball Victoria continues to monitor updates from Vicsport and Sport & Recreation Victoria on the COVIDSafe measures required to resume community sport training and play. We will provide any further updates as required while Victoria keeps moving toward 90 percent full vaccination coverage.

Victoria has surpassed the 70 percent double dose vaccination target with metropolitan Melbourne and Mildura enjoying greater freedoms on the first day out of lockdown. Baseball Victoria acknowledges many clubs are eager to get back on the field, however we must follow all Victorian Government directions and we, alongside many other community sport organisations, need additional clarifications before we can finalise our COVIDSafe plan so clubs can get council approval for training.
As part of Victoria’s Roadmap to Deliver the National Plan, the changes now in effect across metropolitan Melbourne and Mildura include:
Reasons to leave home and curfew no longer in place.
10 people including dependents can visit your home per day.
Pubs, clubs, and entertainment venues can open to 20 fully vaccinated people indoors and 50 outdoors.
15 people can gather outdoors, community sport training returns for the minimum required to hold training.
Although Baseball Victoria is awaiting clarification from the Victorian Government to confirm our COVIDSafe plan for the full return to training, the following details have been confirmed for the return to outdoor community sport training in metropolitan Melbourne:
Community sport training is outdoors only as indoor facilities including changerooms and covered batting tunnels remain closed. Participants can only go inside to use the toilets.
Confirmation of vaccination status is not required at this stage, meaning participants can attend regardless of if they are vaccinated.
Baseball Victoria clubs must comply with CHO directions and any additional directions of your landowners.
This limited return to training is for the minimum required only, with up to 20 people, including necessary coaches or administration staff. Two groups of 20 people can train on the same baseball field if they remain separated for the entire training session. These same settings remain in place for regional Victoria. Travel between regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne is restricted to permitted reasons only, so traveling between regional and metro for community sport is not allowed.
Baseball Victoria follows Victorian Government COVIDSafe Settings, and all clubs must adhere to social distancing and personal hygiene measures throughout the return to training.
The Victorian Government has released updated CHO COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions confirming there is an exemption for community sport volunteers so while vaccination is strongly recommended, it is not required.
This easing of restrictions allows clubs to start training for the 2021/22 VSBL season, estimated to start on 13-14 November 2021. Baseball Victoria Aces Academy will also resume in-person training this weekend under the eased restrictions.
Please note masks will still be required both indoors and outdoors for all Victorians, and Service Victoria QR code check-ins are also required for businesses, including community sport organisations. Clubs must maintain an attendance register and COVID-19 restriction compliance documentation.
All clubs need council approval to access their facilities and return to training. We have opened the return to training registration, which all participants must complete before training.
“We are excited about lockdown ending and know this is something Victorians worked so hard for. We are looking forward to our return to training and we are hopeful of starting the 2021/22 VSBL season in just a few weeks,” Baseball Victoria Interim CEO Gemma Scales said. “As we await further clarification to confirm our full return to training COVIDSafe plan, we hope Melbourne baseballers have a great first weekend out of lockdown. Meanwhile, we will continue to follow all Victorian Government guidelines and will provide further updates as restrictions change, so hopefully we can all be back to baseball soon.”
According to our key roadmap milestones and meeting the 70% vaccination target early, we are on track for a 13 November VSBL start date. As a reminder, below are the milestones we need to reach to get the VSBL season up and running:
26-29 October - 70% of eligible Victorians fully vaccinated (target reached 21 October)
Yes: return to training commences with 13 November start date
No: shift to 4 December start date with a delayed return to training
5 November – 80% of eligible Victorians fully vaccinated
Yes: proceed with 13 November start date
No: training may commence with 4 December start date, or if there is still no training, push back to a January VSBL start
Baseball Victoria continues to monitor updates from Vicsport and Sport & Recreation Victoria on the COVIDSafe measures required to resume community sport training and play. An updated version of the Baseball Victoria Return to Play COVIDSafe Plan will be made available once final details are confirmed by the government.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed on Sunday that more restrictions will ease at 11.59pm on Thursday 21 October 2021 as Victoria reaches its 70 percent double dose vaccination target. This means lockdown will end in metropolitan Melbourne and Mildura and restrictions will ease further in regional Victoria as the state continues to make progress toward the 80 percent double dose vaccination target.
Following this announcement, Baseball Victoria is planning for a return to training from Friday 22 October, pending vaccination status confirmation. We are seeking further clarification from the Victorian Government on vaccination requirements for community sport before return to training registration can open.
Baseball Victoria follows all Victorian Government guidelines, and while it is not yet clear whether the return to community sport will be open to all participants or only those who are fully vaccinated, this is a possibility based on requirements for similar industries and activities. Currently, participants may return to training in regional Victoria regardless of vaccination status so long as they are registered and within the minimum number required to train.
Once the updated Restricted Activity Directions are released, we can confirm the return to training guidelines and open registration.
The Victorian Government has confirmed that community volunteers, including those at local sporting clubs, must be fully vaccinated as per the CHO COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions (No. 3). Section 20 outlines requirements for physical recreation workers and COVID-19 Vaccination Activities Directions (No. 3) - section 40 defines a worker as a volunteer. Clubs are responsible for storing volunteer vaccination information and all volunteers must be registered with Baseball Victoria. Click HERE to view the mandatory vaccination directions.
As part of Victoria’s Roadmap to Deliver the National Plan, the changes coming into effect at 11:59pm on Thursday 21 October in metropolitan Melbourne include:
Reasons to leave home and curfew no longer in place
10 people including dependents can visit your home per day
Pubs, clubs, and entertainment venues can open to 20 fully vaccinated people indoors and 50 outdoors
15 people can gather outdoors, community sport training returns for the minimum required to hold training
Please note masks will still be required both indoors and outdoors for all Victorians, and Service Victoria QR code check-ins are also required for businesses, including community sport organisations.
In regional Victoria, indoor settings – like restaurants, cafes and gyms – will increase from 10 to 30 people per venue, if everyone is fully vaccinated. Outdoor venues will increase from 20 to up to 100 people per venue, but only if everyone is fully vaccinated. If vaccination status is unknown, the venue can only have a total of 20 people. The limited return to outdoor community sport training will continue under current guidelines unless there are any further changes confirmed by the Victorian Government.
“It’s wonderful to hear about lockdown ending, something many Victorians have been waiting for. We know our Victorian baseball community is excited to get back to baseball, and we are looking forward to confirming our return to training as soon as possible,” Baseball Victoria Interim CEO Gemma Scales said. “Like other grassroots sports, we are awaiting further clarification and once we have confirmation from the Victorian Government, we can move forward with our plans get back on the diamond and prepare for a safe and successful baseball season.”

As VSBL clubs in regional Victoria, Ballarat Royals, Geelong Baycats, and Mitchell Majors may train currently, and all players must complete the return to training registration for regional Victoria. Clubs must maintain an attendance register and COVID-19 restriction compliance documentation.
Baseball Victoria continues to seek clarification from Vicsport and Sport & Recreation Victoria on the COVIDSafe measures required to resume community sport training and play. Baseball Victoria is continuing to plan for the resumption of community sport and based on Victoria’s Roadmap and further updates from the Victorian Government, we are expecting to start the 2021/22 VSBL season on Saturday 13 November 2021. This date is subject to change depending on Victorian Government restrictions and how soon the state reaches its vaccination targets that will allow for a return to training and competition.
“We are excited to announce our anticipated start date for the 2021/22 VSBL season, and we are looking forward to an awesome summer of baseball,” Baseball Victoria Interim CEO Gemma Scales said. “While this starting date is subject to Victoria reaching the required vaccination levels to return to community sport, based on the government’s projections, we are confident we will be able to get the season underway later this year.”
Baseball Victoria consulted with the BV Board, VSBL clubs, and Sport & Recreation Victoria regarding this expected start date to ensure we planned for an appropriate amount of time between the return to training and return to play. We also have a plan in place in case we do not reach our targets on time and the start date needs to be pushed back.
This week, Victoria reached its first vaccination target of 80 percent one dose, allowing us to move forward with our 13 November start date plan. Here are the key roadmap milestones and dates in our current plans, which will be used to confirm the VSBL season schedule in the coming weeks.
26-29 October - 70% of eligible Victorians fully vaccinated

Spectators are prohibited except one parent permitted to supervise children. All players must complete the return to training registration for regional Victoria, and the club must maintain an attendance register and COVID-19 restriction compliance documentation.

As a reminder, the lockdown restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne, Mitchell Shire, and City of Latrobe include:
Six reasons to leave home:
shopping for necessary goods and services (within 15km radius of home)

The Victorian Government released its roadmap to reopening and delivering the National Plan today, providing an outline on the easing of restrictions in the coming weeks and months.
Baseball Victoria is currently working through what this reopening roadmap means for the start of the 2021/22 Victorian Summer Baseball League season. The plan outlines several key milestones with the easing of restrictions on community sport dependent on when Victoria reaches its 70 and 80 percent fully vaccinated targets.
Baseball Victoria is seeking further clarification to confirm the roadmap restrictions and how they will apply to a return to training and competition for grassroots baseball. We are expecting further clarity following a community sport update from Sport and Recreation Victoria scheduled for Tuesday 21 September 2021. These clarifications will guide updates to the Baseball Victoria Return to Play COVIDSafe Plan, and we will provide updates to VSBL clubs and members accordingly, including planned season start dates as we draw closer.
In addition to the roadmap announcements, the Chief Health Officer declared the City of Greater Geelong, the Surf Coast, and Mitchell Shire will enter a seven-day lockdown commencing at 11:59pm on Sunday 19 September, with the same restrictions as metropolitan Melbourne and the City of Ballarat, excluding the curfew. This means the previously announced return to training for Geelong Baycats and Mitchell Majors VSBL clubs will cease for the duration of the lockdown, set to last for seven days through 11:59pm on Sunday 26 September.
“It’s great to see Victoria’s Roadmap as we plan for the easing of restrictions to support our return to community sport,” Baseball Victoria Interim CEO Gemma Scales said. “We acknowledge the challenges of continued lockdown but we hope our baseballers are looking forward to the summer season as open up and get back on the diamond safely.”
As a reminder, the lockdown restrictions for metropolitan Melbourne and parts of regional Victoria are:
Six reasons to leave home:
shopping for necessary goods and services (within 10km radius of home unless not available within)
four hours of exercise (within 10km radius of home unless not available within, and with only one other person)
caregiving/compassionate/medical reasons
authorised work or permitted education – with valid permit only
getting the coronavirus vaccine
outdoor social interaction (picnic, walk, or other outdoor activity) with another person not from your household. Up to five adults (plus dependents) from two households may gather outdoors if all adults are fully vaccinated.
No public or private gatherings other than for permitted outdoor social interaction
Two people may train outdoors with a personal trainer
No community sport
Masks must be worn both indoors and outdoors unless an exemption applies
Daily curfew from 9pm – 5am (metropolitan Melbourne only)

COVID-19 vaccines are currently available for all Victorians aged 12 years and over. Getting vaccinated helps protect you from getting sick with COVID-19. The vaccines being used in Australia are safe, free, and very effective at preventing serious illness and loss of life from COVID-19.
It remains very important that Victorians monitor for symptoms, get tested, and get vaccinated when eligible.
To stop the spread, everyone should check this list of exposure sites and follow these instructions:
Anyone who has visited a Tier 1 exposure site during the times listed must immediately isolate, get a coronavirus (COVID-19) test, and quarantine for 14 days from the date of exposure.
Anyone who has visited a Tier 2 exposure site during times listed should urgently get a test and isolate until they receive a negative result.
Anyone who has visited a Tier 3 exposure site during times listed should monitor for symptoms - If symptoms develop, immediately get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.
If you have been to an exposure site, are a close contact of a confirmed case, or exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19 – such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, chills or sweats, or change in sense of smell or taste – get a test immediately. Find out where to get tested HERE.
While Victoria works to get more people vaccinated, you can stay safe by washing your hands regularly, wearing a face mask, coughing and sneezing into your elbow, and keeping at least 1.5 metres from others. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, no matter how mild, you must get tested and stay home.

The Victorian Government confirmed a slight easing of lockdown restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne and Ballarat after the state reached its 70 percent first dose vaccination target. These modest changes come into effect from 11.59pm on Friday 17 September and include expanding outdoor social interaction, exercise, the distance you can travel from home and more.
There are no changes to community sport, as all activity in lockdown areas remains cancelled. Baseball Victoria continues to closely monitor the situation and expects further clarification on Sunday with announcements on the Victorian Government’s roadmap to reopening, outlining vaccination targets and restrictions through to November.
From 11:59pm tonight, the lockdown restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne and Ballarat will be:

Two people may train outdoors with a personal trainer
No community sport

Spectators are prohibited except one parent permitted to supervise children. All players from these clubs will be required to complete the return to training registration for regional Victoria, and all clubs must maintain an attendance register and COVID-19 restriction compliance documentation.
“It’s great to see the slight easing of restrictions for Victorians in lockdown as we focus on the health and safety of our Victorian baseball community,” Baseball Victoria Interim CEO Gemma Scales said. “We continue to consult with stakeholders and update VSBL clubs ahead of the summer season, and we are excited to get back to baseball when it’s safe to do so.”

Following the Victorian Government’s announcements on the lifting of lockdown restrictions in regional Victoria, Baseball Victoria acknowledges that a return to baseball training may commence from 10 September 2021 for three VSBL clubs in regional Victoria: Ballarat Royals, Geelong Baycats, and Mitchell Majors.
Current lockdown restrictions will ease in regional Victoria, except for Greater Shepparton from 11.59pm on Thursday 9 September. These changes for regional Victoria will include:
Five reasons to leave home are removed.
No limit on the distance regional Victorians can travel from home – other than restrictions on entry to metropolitan Melbourne.
Density limits and patron caps on restaurants, retail, and entertainment venues.
Community sport - permitted outdoor training only with the minimum number required to train. Spectators are prohibited except one parent permitted to supervise children.
This ability to train will only apply to the Ballarat Royals, Geelong Baycats, and Mitchell Majors as clubs participating in the Victorian Summer Baseball League.
All players from these three clubs will be required to complete the return to training registration for regional Victoria, and all clubs must maintain an attendance register and COVID-19 restriction compliance documentation.
Registration and return to play documents will be confirmed directly with these clubs and registered players for these clubs, subject to any further updates from the Victorian Government or Sport and Recreation Victoria.
Most winter associations cancelled the remainder of their seasons last month. Winter associations that wish to return to limited training may do so with council approval and in line with the Baseball Victoria COVIDSafe Plan in hopes of completing their seasons once a return to competition is allowed.
The Victorian Government has provided this table of restrictions outlining the changes for regional Victoria and the current lockdown settings for metropolitan Melbourne.
Lockdown restrictions remain the same in metropolitan Melbourne, with all baseball activity cancelled until lockdown is eventually lifted and community sport is allowed to resume. The Victorian Government has flagged small easing of restrictions when 70 percent of eligible Victorians have had at least one dose of vaccine, a target we are expected to reach in the next two weeks at the current vaccination rate. The return to community sport in metropolitan Melbourne remains undetermined at this stage, with further clarification expected over the coming weeks and months.
Baseball Victoria continues to closely monitor this evolving situation to provide regular updates to VSBL clubs regarding plans for the start of the summer season. Baseball Victoria Aces Academy remains online, and no baseball clubs in metropolitan Melbourne may conduct training, come and try days, or any in-person activities.
As a reminder, the lockdown restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne include:
Only five reasons to leave home:
shopping for necessary goods and services (within 5km radius of home unless not available within)
two hours of exercise (within 5km radius of home unless not available within, and with only one other person)
caregiving/compassionate/medical reasons
authorised work or permitted education – with valid permit only
getting the coronavirus vaccine
No public or private gatherings
No community sport
Masks must be worn both indoors and outdoors unless an exemption applies
Daily curfew from 9pm – 5am
“We are pleased to hear about the easing of restrictions in regional Victoria, allowing for a return to training, while we know the situation is still challenging for all Victorians. Our top priorities remain the health and safety of our Victorian baseball community,” Baseball Victoria Interim CEO Gemma Scales said. “We continue to communicate with VSBL clubs about the summer season and we are looking forward to getting back to baseball when it’s safe to do so.”

Following the Victorian Government’s announcements on the extension of the statewide lockdown, Baseball Victoria confirms all baseball activity remains cancelled until lockdown is eventually lifted and community sport is allowed to resume.
Victoria’s Chief Health Officer has declared that almost all of the current lockdown restrictions will remain in place until 70 percent of eligible Victorians have had at least one dose of vaccine. This is estimated to be around Thursday 23 September 2021 but may change based on vaccination rates. The Victorian Government will consider easing restrictions in parts of regional Victoria next week, subject to public health advice.
The only changes to restrictions at this stage are the reopening of playgrounds and expansion to in-home care for school-aged children of authorised workers from 11.59pm on Thursday 2 September 2021.
Baseball Victoria continues to closely monitor this evolving situation, with regular updates provided to winter associations and VSBL clubs, particularly regarding plans for the start of the summer season. Baseball Victoria Aces Academy remains online, and no Victorian baseball clubs may conduct training, come and try days, or any in-person activities.
As a reminder, the statewide lockdown restrictions include:

Baseball Victoria continues to closely monitor the evolving COVID situation. Earlier today, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews flagged the possibility of further restrictions over the weekend. While no official changes have been confirmed, this evening information quoted from an unattributed Victorian Government spokesperson has been heavily relayed in the media requesting that community sport in regional Victoria be postponed for this weekend.
There is no official confirmation or announcement on additional restrictions impacting community sport in regional Victoria, however, it is highly likely that this announcement will be made tomorrow.
We anticipate further details on the potential postponement of regional community sport to be addressed by the Victorian Government tomorrow as part of their familiar press conferences.
The official Sport and Recreation Victoria contacts available to Baseball Victoria, are not in a position to confirm the request to cease regional community sport or timing on what measures will be put in place.
Several sports have made the decision to cease activity in anticipation of the announcement, however, we will continue to await the official Victorian Government confirmation and will update all baseball members as soon as we are able to.
Although we anticipate that regional community sport will cease, we are not yet clear on exactly when or how this will be executed and will delay any official cancellation of activity until we receive these details from the Victorian Government.
We encourage all winter associations, clubs, and members to stay tuned for further updates, as we acknowledge the current ability to participate in community sport may change tomorrow.
For our entire Victorian baseball community across the state, we hope everyone stays safe as we continue to navigate this challenging COVID landscape. Further updates will be communicated as soon as possible.
It remains very important that Victorians monitor for symptoms, get tested, and get vaccinated when eligible.

Following the Victorian Government’s announcements this morning, Baseball Victoria confirms the resumption of community sport for all ages in regional Victoria following the lifting of lockdown for regional areas at 11:59pm tonight, Monday 9 August 2021.
The Victorian Government has advised that from 11:59pm tonight, the five reasons to leave the home can be removed in regional Victoria and there will be no limit on the distance regional Victorians can travel from home. However, people will only be able to travel to Melbourne for a permitted reason and must follow the Melbourne restrictions once there.
Please note the metropolitan Melbourne settings remain the same with no changes to lockdown restrictions, currently in place until 11:59pm on Thursday 12 August 2021.
The changes to restrictions in regional Victoria include:
Private gatherings in the home are still not permitted
Outdoor gatherings in public spaces can occur with up to 10 people
Face masks remain mandatory indoors and outdoors
Density limits for food and hospitality
Community sport resumes, no spectators
Community sport will open for all ages, including training and competition. Only the minimum number of participants (players, coaches, referees, officials, and carers or parents) needed to train or compete are permitted to attend, subject to a density quotient of 1 person per 4 sqm. Spectators are not permitted.
Regional baseball clubs need council permission to return and must adhere to the Baseball Victoria Return to Play COVIDSafe Plan, available HERE.
All regional Victorians need to continue with their COVIDSafe behaviours – most importantly to get tested immediately if they have any symptoms at all and get vaccinated if it’s their turn.
The Victorian Government has provided this table of restrictions outlining the changes for regional Victoria and the current lockdown settings for metropolitan Melbourne.
Full details on the Victorian Government announcement are available HERE.
As a reminder, the lockdown restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne are:
Only five reasons to leave home:
shopping for necessary goods and services (within 5km radius of home unless not available within)
two hours of exercise (within 5km radius of home unless not available within)
caregiving/compassionate/medical reasons
authorised work or permitted education
getting the coronavirus vaccine
No public or private gatherings
No community sport
Masks must be worn both indoors and outdoors unless an exemption applies

Following the Victorian Government’s announcements today, Baseball Victoria is planning for the easing of statewide lockdown restrictions from 11:59pm on Tuesday 27 July 2021.
A number of restrictions will remain in place from Wednesday 28 July, although there will no longer be only five essential reasons for Victorians to leave home and the 5km travel limit will lift. For a period of two weeks, the restrictions in Victoria will be:
No visitors to homes
Community sport can resume
Masks remain mandatory indoors and outdoors
Hospitality, retail, and gyms can reopen with a density limit of 1 person for every 4 square metres
The resumption of community sport includes a return to training and competition for all ages, limited to the minimum number of people required to participate in and facilitate the activity (i.e. players, coaches).
Spectators are not allowed, excluding people necessary for events such as coaches, umpires, carers, parents and guardians.
Baseball Victoria confirms that winter associations can return to training and play and the Baseball Victoria Aces Academy will return to on-field training. We are considering the numerous COVID safety protocols for a major event and will make an announcement on the Under 16 State Winter Championships in Sale scheduled for this weekend as soon as possible, likely late this evening.
Mask wearing remains mandatory for indoors and outdoors, except for those on the field who have a reasonable expectation they will need to exert themselves. Scorers, committee members, and anyone else 12 years and older must wear a mask inside any facility and outdoors at all times.
The Service Victoria QR Code app must be used for check-in at all baseball venues, and all attendees need to check-in regardless of how long they are there. Click HERE for details.

Lockdown restrictions will ease in metropolitan Melbourne from 11:59pm on Thursday 10 June 2021, with one small change. Melbourne residents will need to continue wearing masks in all outdoor settings after lockdown eases, as well as indoors at all times.
Once lockdown is lifted in metropolitan Melbourne, the restrictions will be:
25km travel radius from place of primary residence, which means people in metropolitan Melbourne cannot travel to regional Victoria over the long weekend.
Masks must be worn indoors and outdoors at all times.
Density limits in public settings including workplaces and restaurants.
Community sport: training only, no competition permitted and 25km limit applies. Limited to the number required to participate in and facilitate activity.
In metropolitan Melbourne, participants will not be able to train if that training is conducted more than 25km from their primary residence. Each of the metropolitan winter associations will provide an update on their training recommencement.
In regional Victoria, community sport will be open for all ages both training and competition, without travel into metropolitan Melbourne and within venue caps.
The Victorian Government has provided this Table of Restrictions from 11:59pm on Thursday 10 June 2021 which defines the changes for regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne. Click HERE for the full Baseball Victoria update on the easing of restrictions.
Baseball Victoria will provide further details to the winter associations as they are confirmed by the government regarding the limited return to training in metropolitan Melbourne and the return to training and play in regional Victoria.

The Victorian Government has announced further easing of restrictions for businesses, plus updates to electronic record keeping requirements.
From 28 May:
Density quotients will be removed for outdoor non-seated venues such as recreation facilities, community sport, pools, tourism services and non-seated outdoor entertainment.
Small-to-medium sized venues can have up to 200 people per space (such as a dining room or band room) without any density limit, provided COVID marshals are on site ensuring all patrons are checking in to each space. These changes will apply for spaces that are 400 sqm or below, larger spaces still need to observe density limits.
All venues and businesses required to undertake electronic record keeping must use the Victorian Government QR Code Service through the Service Victoria app. This is convenient for Victorians and gives contact tracers access to the best data quickly.

Following the welcome news on the easing of restrictions announced by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Monday, 26 October 2020, Baseball Victoria is confirming how these changes apply to Victorian baseball and our return to activity.
“We are pleased to learn about the easing of restrictions and look forward to seeing our Victorian baseballers out on the diamond,” Baseball Victoria CEO Kristie Middleton said. “We are working diligently to finalise these changes and confirm all details so our members can enjoy a safe and smooth return to activity with proper COVID-19 precautions in place. We thank the entire baseball community for the support and cooperation during lockdown and we are excited to return to the sport we all love soon.”
We will be updating our Return to Activity/Return to Play Plan within the next 24 hours and expect to provide further details on the next steps for baseball activities in both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria shortly.
Stay tuned for more updates and in the meantime, please register to return to training so we can get back on the field as soon as possible.
Following recent announcements from Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, Baseball Victoria continues to consult with Sport and Recreation Victoria to confirm details of how these updates apply to baseball across the state.
While the dates and restrictions are subject to change, currently the Victorian Government will ease restrictions for community sport on Sunday, 1 November 2020, when junior baseballers will be able to return to full training and senior baseballers can commence non-contact training in metropolitan Melbourne.
As Baseball Victoria keeps planning for our return to activity, we will provide any further updates to dates and resources as required. To help clubs plan for the season ahead and get an accurate idea of numbers, we are kindly asking all those interested in participating in the 2020/21 VSBL season to register HERE.
The Premier has suggested the possibility of this date moving forward seven days with a continued reduction of daily case numbers. Baseball Victoria is preparing for both options but at this stage, we continue to plan on 1 November 2020 for our return to activity.
“The situation is improving, and we are hopeful we can return to play at the end of November when we have completed four weeks of training and our clubs and players are ready to go,” Baseball Victoria President Myles Foreman said. “The Baseball Victoria Board and staff have been working very closely with the Victorian Government to make sure we can provide this hybrid season with discounts, such as no team fees for juniors and team fees for seniors being less than half of last year’s costs. This will allow clubs to assess their financials and focus on getting back to the sport we all love.”
Fees for Baseball Victoria and Baseball Australia are frozen at the same rates as last summer and the senior team fees are reduced by 50% with the junior team fees completely removed – junior teams are free for 2020/21. These significant reductions will allow clubs to determine their fees with these reduced costs, to pass those onto players as part of their overall club fees. Exact club fees are being determined by clubs now, and the return to activity will be free until such time as our return to play as part of the summer baseball season.
Baseball Victoria continues to work with the Victorian Government on financial support for our members and clubs – it is possible we will be able to apply additional discounts once we have finalised the season format and fixtures.
“We are working diligently to adhere to the Victorian Government’s changes and timelines so that we can be prepared for a safe, successful return to activity and eventual return to play, keeping in mind that dates and plans may continue to shift,” Baseball Victoria CEO Kristie Middleton said. “We are incredibly conscious of the many difficulties members of our Victorian baseball community have faced this year, which is why we wanted to make the appropriate adjustments to our fee structure. We have prepared a number of club resources, most importantly our updated Return to Activity and Return to Play Plan, to guide our clubs through this new chapter of grassroots baseball.”
“We continue to work with our clubs, and we are pleased with this much more optimistic outlook as we feel confident we can return to play before the Christmas break. We are finalising the return to on-field training for the Baseball Victoria Aces Academy and our 2021 AYC plan to ensure we have a Victorian-based event.”
Players, coaches, volunteers, and officials are all asked to register to help teams and clubs make sure they are ready to play in a COVID-safe environment.

Further to the easing of the restrictions announced by the Victorian Government today, Baseball Victoria continues to consult with Sport and Recreation Victoria about the details of these updates and how they will apply to baseball.
In summary, the same restrictions currently in place will apply to community sport from this evening at 11:59 PM, Sunday 18 October 2020 until the next easing of restrictions on Sunday, 1 November 2020.
On 1 November 2020, junior baseballers will be able to return to full training, while senior baseballers will be able to return to non-contact training. This date is subject to change and Premier Daniel Andrews has today suggested it is possible this date may be moved forward seven days with a continued reduction of daily case numbers. We will prepare for both options, but at this stage, the 1 November 2020 date is set.
At this time, this easing of restrictions is still subject to the 25km radius of travel that is relevant for each Victorian in metropolitan Melbourne and we will await further updates in this respect to ensure that every Victorian baseballer can return to training with their club.
From now until 1 November 2020, subject to any updates, Baseball Victoria members in metropolitan Melbourne are not permitted to attend organised sport at sporting facilities, access change rooms or attend club facilities even within the 25km radius. The only exception is if you are a permitted worker with a work permit who is contracted by the facility manager to undertake repairs.
Baseball Victoria is working with the Victorian Summer Baseball League Clubs to update draft fixtures and COVID specific rules based on this new information to ensure that we are ready to safely return to training.
We have updated our Return to Activity and Return to Play Plan, subject to further clarifications, and have also updated our Frequently Asked Questions in anticipation of the changes.
Further information on the start of the 2020/21 VSBL competition, along with all costs, updates to the format and rules of the VSBL will be provided to members in the coming days after consultation with our clubs and the Victorian Government.

Baseball Victoria, working with Sport and Recreation Victoria and the associated Victorian Government departments that have been assisting Victoria throughout this global pandemic, continues to prepare for a return to activity and a return to play for baseball.
Clubs are currently reviewing draft fixtures for a planned returned to baseball after a four-week training window, where all baseball players, coaches, officials and volunteers will register to train for free with their club.
Until we are able to confirm the format and official start date for the hybrid 2020/2021 COVID season, we will continue to plan our return to activity, looking first at our options to train.
At this stage, indications from the Victorian Government’s scheduled update on Sunday, 18 October 2020 are positive for Victorians to receive some easing of the restrictions, but it’s not clear how these will apply to sport or if they will be suitable to start club training. We are hopeful that it will allows clubs to continue to prepare club facilities for our imminent return.

Following announcements made by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews this morning on the easing of Stage Three restrictions in regional Victoria, Baseball Victoria acknowledges that a return to baseball training is likely to commence next week for three VSBL clubs in regional Victoria: Ballarat Royals, Geelong Baycats and Mitchell Majors.
Baseball Victoria is currently seeking additional clarification from Sport and Recreation Victoria to confirm the details, however based on the Premier’s announcements, from 11:59 PM tomorrow, 16 September 2020, outdoor contact and non-contact sport will begin for regional Victorians aged 18 and under, as well as outdoor non-contact sport for adults.
Baseball Victoria will not commence any activities until Tuesday, 22 September 2020 subject to updates from Sport and Recreation Victoria.
This ability to train will only apply to the Ballarat Royals, Geelong Baycats and Mitchell Majors as clubs participating in the Victorian Summer Baseball League.
All players from these three clubs will be required complete the return to training registration for regional Victoria, and all clubs must maintain an attendance register and COVID-19 restriction compliance documentation.
Registration and return to play documents will be confirmed directly with these clubs and registered players for these clubs, subject to the updates from Sport and Recreation Victoria.
“The progress made in regional Victoria is welcome news and we are pleased to confirm our regional VSBL clubs may return to training in the coming weeks under Victorian Government guidelines and restrictions,” Baseball Victoria CEO Kristie Middleton said. “We continue to make small steps toward a COVID normal, and we are committed to getting players back on the diamond when it is safe and possible to do so. The health and safety of our Victorian baseball community remains our top priority.”
Baseball Victoria will provide further clarifications on the easing of restrictions in regional Victoria and the plans for metropolitan Melbourne accordingly in line with updates from the Victorian Government.
Baseball Victoria are considering how clubs that traditionally play in Winter, whom have been unable to conduct a season of baseball, might be able to participate a division of the Victorian Summer Baseball League for regional Victoria or how they might join the Victorian Summer Baseball League.

Following Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews' announcements today on the roadmap for easing COVID-19 restrictions, we are working on how these changes apply to community sport and baseball activities across the state over the coming months. Once we have all the necessary clarifications and have consulted with Victoria’s baseball cubs and community, we will provide further updates and our own roadmap for returning to baseball.
Currently the environment remains the same in regional and metropolitan Victoria, as per our FAQs and our Return to Activity/Return to Play documentation.
Updates of the Victorian Roadmap can be found via the Victorian Government website:
Baseball Victoria will consult with Club Presidents and Secretaries, our baseball officials cohort, the newly re-established Victorian Summer Baseball League Pennant Committee and our baseball members to confirm the details on returning to engage with baseball in the coming months.
The Victorian Government announced today it will enter a State of Disaster from 6:00 PM tonight in addition to the State of Emergency for Victoria in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews this afternoon engaged Stage Three restrictions across regional Victoria and upgraded restrictions for Melbourne to Stage Four.
Baseball Victoria confirms the cessation of non-contact senior training and full-contact junior training and competition in regional Victoria (including Mitchell Shire) in conjunction with the return to Stage Three “Stay at Home” restrictions.
Given the current climate and the upcoming changes, Baseball Victoria has decided to cancel all baseball activities in regional Victoria from 6:00 PM this evening. In anticipation of the return to Stage Three lockdown, it is not necessary for regional baseball clubs to conduct training and in the interest of everyone’s safety, all training and games scheduled for Monday, 3 August and Tuesday, 4 August are cancelled.
Stage Three and Stage Four restrictions mean there is no baseball training, games, in-person meetings or club events. The regional Victoria junior competitions and senior non-contact training sessions now cease. With regional Victoria ceasing their junior competitions, it is unlikely that competition will be able to return after this six-week lockdown, therefore the winter associations are discussing the options available to them, and we will provide an update early this week.
Baseball Victoria is in regular communication with winter associations and winter/summer clubs to discuss the ever-changing landscape and how COVID-19 developments impact our sport, including the effect on the 2020/2021 VSBL season of summer baseball and our participation in national pathway events.
The Victorian Government’s updated restrictions will be in place for the next six weeks. The Victorian Government will continue to monitor the restrictions and any changes will be made in line with the advice from health experts, and Baseball Victoria will remain in regular contact with Sport and Recreation Victoria and Vicsport to provide clarification for our members.
From 6:00 PM tonight, Melbourne will move to Stage Four restrictions with stronger rules to limit the movement of people:
That includes a curfew – from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM – beginning tonight. The only reasons to leave home during these hours will be work, medical care and caregiving.
Exercise will be limited to a maximum of one hour per day and no more than five kilometres from your home. Group size will be limited to a maximum of two, whether you live with them or not.
Shopping will be limited to one person per household per day. Again, the five-kilometre rule will apply.
Face coverings will continue to be compulsory.
From 11:59 PM on Wednesday, regional Victoria (including Mitchell Shire) will return to Stage Three restrictions, including:
There are only four reasons to be out: shopping for food and essential items, care and caregiving, daily exercise and work and study if you can’t do it from home.
Restaurants and cafes can only offer delivery and takeaway. Entertainment, cultural venues, beauty and personal services will need to close. Community sport will need to stop.

For Saturday, 1 August and Sunday, 2 August 2020 until 11.59 PM, junior baseball competition in regional Victoria will continue as scheduled, aside from the Bendigo Association whom have suspended play this weekend.

Baseball Victoria continues to closely monitor the evolving COVID-19 crisis, particularly Victorian Government restrictions and how they apply to baseball across the state.
All baseball activity, including training and in-person committee meetings, is shutdown in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire in accordance with the stage three restrictions, which were initially announced as a six-week lockdown starting at 11:59 PM on Wednesday, 8 July 2020.
At this time, no new restrictions on outdoor sport have been announced for regional Victoria, meaning non-contact training for seniors and full training and competition for juniors may continue for Bendigo Baseball Association, Geelong Baseball Association, Latrobe Valley Baseball Association, North Eastern Baseball Association and Sunraysia Baseball League.
On Sunday, 19 July, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced updated restrictions regarding the use of face masks in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, which go into effect at 11:59 PM on Wednesday, 22 July 2020.
When leaving home for one of the four reasons (shopping for food and supplies, outdoor exercise and recreation, medical care or caregiving and study or work if you can't do it from home), people 12 years and older must wear a face covering, unless an exemption applies.
For people outside of metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire:
You are encouraged to wear a face covering when leaving home and if you are not able to keep 1.5 metres from others. If you need to travel into metropolitan Melbourne or Mitchell Shire then you must wear a face covering.
All baseball activity has ceased in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire for at least the duration of the stage three lockdown, therefore there is to be no coaching or training sessions.
Coaches continuing activity in regional Victoria are not required to wear face masks, but it's now encouraged by the Victorian Government.

Baseball Victoria continues to monitor the evolving COVID-19 situation and how it affects our baseball members and wider community. We remain in regular communication with the Winter Associations, Winter Clubs and Victorian Summer Baseball League Clubs to discuss these restrictions and how they apply to Victorian baseball.
For the remainder of this evening, Tuesday, 7 July and tomorrow, Wednesday, 8 July, we remain under the current restrictions including lockdowns of ‘hotspot’ postcodes, with the full list of affected postcodes available in our previous update from Saturday, 4 July.
“The situation is changing every day, and we are closely consulting with Sport and Recreation Victoria and Vicsport to confirm all changes to restrictions and updates to Victorian Government guidelines,” Baseball Victoria CEO Kristie Middleton said. “It’s clear that Victoria is dealing with critical COVID-19 challenges at the moment, and we need to remain vigilant to protect baseball while preparing for the future.”
“This significant change today means we return to where we were several months ago, shutting down baseball across metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire. Although another shutdown of baseball activity is understandably disappointing, we recognise the need for it and we will be following the Government’s direction to support our clubs and the health and wellbeing of our greater baseball community,” Middleton said. “We will continue to monitor all Government announcements for further changes so that we can assist our clubs with their Continued Activity and Return to Play in regional Victoria, so long as it is safe and possible to do so.”
The news of the return to lockdown in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire follows several announcements made in the last week, including the lockdown of hotspot postcodes and the decisions of Melbourne Winter Baseball League (MWBL), Dandenong Baseball Association (DBA) and Geelong Baseball Association (GBA) to cancel all or part of their seasons. Baseball Victoria understands that there are many changes occurring daily and updates that need to be made.
Baseball Victoria encourages our members to seek information from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Resources for tips on staying healthy and safe during lockdown and access to adequate assistance as necessary. Following Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ announcements this afternoon on the lockdown of additional postcodes and specific public buildings, Baseball Victoria is updating our information regarding COVID-19 restrictions.
Stage three restrictions will go into effect in two additional postcode areas: 3031 Flemington and Kensington and 3051 North Melbourne (see below for a full list of postcodes) from 11.59 PM this evening, Saturday, 4 July 2020.
Baseball Victoria confirms that no members who live in these postcodes will be allowed to attend any Baseball Victoria training, clubs, committee meeting or events.
Residents in these lockdown postcodes will only be permitted to leave home for four reasons: food and supplies, medical and caregiving, exercise and work and education if it can't be done from home. Organised club training is considered community sport, not exercise, and therefore if you reside in a lockdown postcode, you cannot leave that postcode to attend training in another suburb.
Baseball Victoria notes that there is not currently a baseball club located in one of the lockdown suburbs, although there are several clubs that are in the areas surrounding these suburbs and they may consider if they will continue to hold their scheduled training sessions.
Those people whom reside in the lockdown postcodes and whom have registered to train will receive an email directly confirming they are not permitted to attend training. Each club will be provided with a listing of those people whom are not permitted to attend training.
Any member that updates their postcode from a current lockdown postcode to another postcode will be required to provide proof of residence. In addition, any returning member whom updates their postcode from a previous registration to a new postcode which is no longer in a lockdown postcode will also need to provide proof of residence, as will any new members to baseball.
These updated restrictions will affect the Continued Activity for several clubs and associations and may result in changes to the previously published dates on training, junior competitions and a return to senior full contact training and competition, in addition to those changes announced on Friday to the Melbourne Winter Baseball League, Dandenong Baseball Association and Geelong Baseball Association seasons.
Baseball Victoria will continue to work with the Winter Associations and Winter Clubs to determine what these changes mean for the winter season, acknowledging that updates continue to occur regularly.

Following Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ announcements this afternoon on the lockdown of COVID-19 hotspots, Baseball Victoria has consulted with VIC Sport and Sport and Recreation Victoria to confirm how these restrictions will impact baseball.
Stage three restrictions will go into effect in 10 postcode areas (see below for a list of postcodes) from 11.59 PM on Wednesday, 1 July 2020 and remain in place through at least Wednesday, 29 July 2020.

Following the updates to COVID-19 restrictions announced by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Saturday, 20 June 2020, Baseball Victoria has been working with our sporting colleagues, VIC Sport and Sport & Recreation Victoria, to qualify several aspects of the government announcements. There is additional information that has been provided today, Wednesday 24 June 2020.
The Victorian Government has now clarified that some aspects of community sport were allowed to return beginning from 11:59 PM on Sunday, 21 June, including:
Monday, 22 June through Sunday, 12 July 2020
Adults will continue to train in groups of 20 people plus two coaching staff, while maintaining social distancing and non-contact training (i.e. there can be two groups of 20 people training at the same time, plus their coaching staff);
Juniors will be able to recommence full contact training and competition;
Batting cages and indoor facilities can be used in groups no more than 20, subject to the square meterage rules;
Changerooms and facilities can be used while maintaining social distancing and can have no more than 20 people.
This clarification of 20 people per group returns to the restrictions that we had in place last week, allowing us to continue full training in anticipation of a return to full contact senior training and competition.
From mid-July – subject to the advice of Victoria’s Chief Health Officer and the continued management of the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), adults can resume full-contact training from 13 July and full-contact competition from 20 July.
Baseball Victoria will continue to work with the Winter Associations and Clubs to prepare for a recommencement of the winter seasons based on these tentative dates, acknowledging that these dates are fluid and updates continue to occur daily.
Following on from the previous announcements, Junior Winter Competition details are currently being finalised by the Winter Associations and will be updated via their communication channels. Click HERE to view Winter Association details.

Following the changes to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions announced by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Saturday, 20 June 2020, Baseball Victoria is pleased to confirm the resumption of all junior baseball competitions and continued activity for senior players – albeit with additional restrictions.
The Victorian Government has allowed some aspects of community sport to return beginning from 11:59 PM on Sunday, 21 June, which includes:
Monday, 22 June through Sunday, 12 July 2020
Adults will continue to train in groups, REDUCED FROM 20 people to 10 per group plus two coaching staff, while maintaining social distancing and non-contact training (i.e. there can be two groups of ten people training at the same time, plus their coaching staff);
Juniors will be able to recommence full contact training and competition;
Batting cages and indoor facilities can be used in groups no more than 10;
Changerooms and facilities can be used while maintaining social distancing and can have no more than 20 people (less dependent upon the size of the facilities);
Canteens will be set to reopen with the commencement of junior competition, applying all the necessary space and food handling requirements.
Baseball Victoria and the Winter Baseball Associations are working together to confirm how and when junior seasons would commence, along with continuing discussions and options for senior competition.
Senior training must remain as non-contact in groups of 10, with no more than 20 on a single field, maintaining all social distancing and hygiene requirements. The Victorian Government continues to review this particular restriction, which moves back to the earliest Return to Activity training format that commenced on Monday, 25 May 2020. Baseball Victoria will be able to confirm in the coming days if and when training will return to the larger group format.
At this stage, the return dates for senior full contact training and competition are unconfirmed, previous dates published by your Winter Associations are likely incorrect in light of the Victorian Government changes this past weekend.
“This is a fluid situation as Australia continues to adjust to life with COVID-19. The safety of our Victorian baseball community is our top priority, and that’s why we are committed to adapting to all the requirements and restrictions as a result of this changing landscape,” Baseball Victoria President Myles Foreman said. “We continue to update our documents and all of our changes are available on our website. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our community and we look forward to getting back to baseball as soon as it’s safe to do so.”
Clubs will be provided with an updated Continued Activity/Return to Play Plan (Version 3A) and the Club Templates for Training Attendance for seniors have been edited to accommodate 10 people (two groups where necessary), with a separate Template for Training attendance for juniors now that they can return to full training.

Further to the alternation of the shutdown timelines that enabled Baseball Victoria’s Return to Activity on Monday, 25 May 2020, these changes allow training to expand with additional athletes as all of the social distancing rules remain in effect.
Updated restrictions now in effect as of Monday, 1 June 2020 at 10:00 AM are as follows:
Training is extended to 20 athletes and two coaching staff per training session.
The use of clubrooms, changerooms, showers and covered batting cages are not allowed. The only indoor club facilities that may be used are toilets.
Clubs need to continue with the application of hygiene measures to return to on-field training.
All clubs must adhere to the maximum of 20 athletes and two coaching staff per training group.
There can be two groups of 20 athletes on the field, one in the diamond and one in the outfield with approximately 20 metres in between them.
Each group may have 20 athletes with two coaching staff; the groups are able to swap positions on the field, but they must remain in the original groups of 20 athletes.
Groundskeepers, parents and other club members may not be on the field during training, otherwise they will count toward the maximum number of people.
All athletes and coaches must use hand sanitiser before, during and after training. Hand sanitiser must be reapplied every 20 minutes during training.
Clubs will only have access to the field and toilets. Parents will be able to attend training with children in limited numbers while maintaining social distancing.
All training will be conducted so that there is no personal contact and appropriate space between participants.

The health and wellbeing of our participants and greater community depends on our continued caution and social distancing in line with advice from government and health officials.”

Baseball Victoria has considered the federal update on the three-step framework for a COVID-Safe Australia as well as Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ announcements regarding the easing of restrictions across the state.
Baseball Victoria has worked diligently to obtain the necessary information from the Victorian Government and applicable authorities to move forward with organised baseball activity, and we are pleased to share the following changes:
We have altered our timeline for the shutdown of all baseball activity in accordance with the Victorian Government’s changes to restrictions. Previously scheduled to last through 31 May, our shutdown measures have been adjusted to allow for the recommencement of training at a baseball club with up to 10 athletes and two coaches, starting from 9:00 am on Monday, 25 May 2020.
These changes apply to on-field training only. Use of clubrooms, changerooms, showers and covered batting cages are not allowed. The only indoor club facilities that may be used are toilets.
Clubs will need to assist with hygiene measures to return to on-field training.
All clubs must adhere to the maximum of 10 athletes and two coaching staff per training group.
There can be two groups on the field, one in the diamond and one in the outfield with approximately 20 metres in between them. Each group may have 10 athletes with two coaching staff; however, the groups may not swap over at any time and need to remain in their section for the entire training session.
Groundskeepers, parents and other club members may not be on the field during training, otherwise they will count toward the maximum number of people.
All athletes and coaches must use hand sanitiser before, during and after training. Hand sanitiser must be reapplied every 20 minutes during training.

Baseball Victoria has taken into consideration the federal update on the three-step framework for a COVID-Safe Australia announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison last Friday, as well as Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ announcements made on Monday, 11 May.
The key points in Baseball Victoria’s latest update are:
Under eased restrictions, outdoor activities in groups of up to 10 people will be allowed from 11:59pm on Tuesday, 12 May in Victoria.
There are still many questions that will need to be clarified and confirmed with the relevant authorities before we can safely return to baseball activities, including on-field training.
Baseball Victoria’s position remains the same – there is no current formal baseball activity. While we work with the government for clarification on creating the safest environment for returning to activity, all baseball activity remains closed.
Further information will be communicated to all associations, clubs and members when it becomes available, we expect updates in the coming days.
On Monday, 11 May, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced that some coronavirus restrictions will be lifted from 11:59pm on Tuesday 12 May. Allowing outdoor activities to be held with groups of up to 10 people while still maintaining social distancing rules is the most relevant announcement relating to baseball. Clearly, this is a very positive move towards the return to baseball activity.
However, while some of the restrictions will be eased from 11:59pm on Tuesday 12 May, there is still a lot of work to be done to ensure that we can get back on the field safely. Our discussions with our state and territory counterparts confirmed that each location is different, and we need to clarify and confirm how eased restrictions apply to baseball. One such example is whether coaches count towards the 10-person maximum, or whether that number applies to players only. Access to toilets and equipment or first aid at club facilities is another issue that needs to be addressed by authorities prior to our return to activity.
There are numerous details yet to be confirmed and finalised. We will now work with the relevant authorities to finalise these details and communicate the first draft of Baseball Victoria’s Return to Baseball Activity Guidelines.
We acknowledge the patience and commitment to flattening the curve as demonstrated by the Victorian Baseball community, and we know many of our members are excited about the prospect of returning to baseball activity. While we respect these sentiments, we must continue our careful planning and preparation to ensure we have all the relevant information. This will allow us to provide guidance on conducting baseball activities safely for all participants without breaking any applicable laws.
Baseball Victoria has met with winter associations and both winter and summer clubs this evening to discuss this update and our current plans for proceeding under eased restrictions. We will provide an update as soon as possible.

Following Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ announcement on changes to COVID-19 restrictions earlier today, Baseball Victoria is working to return to baseball activity and to ensure we are able to provide a safe environment for the baseball community. We are meeting with Winter Associations, Winter and Summer Clubs tomorrow (Tuesday, 12 May) and expect to have updated information from the state government to clarify important items, before updating all members on how you can return to baseball activity as soon as possible.
Baseball Victoria continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation while working with State and Federal Governments, Baseball Australia and our state and territory counterparts to create the safest strategy for getting back to baseball activity.
As the landscape continues to evolve across the states and territories, Baseball Victoria is working through the National Principles for the Resumption of Sport and Recreation Activities. These principles will set the precedent for the eventual return to community sports, and in order to safely return to activity, we must adhere to these principles along with the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19 Environment. Currently in a draft framework, these principles will be approved in part or full by the Federal Government and then enacted by the States and Territories with additional requirements.
“Victoria has done a great job of staying home and social distancing, so thank you to our Victorian baseball community for doing your part. However, we cannot backtrack by returning to activity too soon without proper guidelines in place,” Baseball Victoria CEO Kristie Middleton said. “We want to return to baseball as soon as it’s safely possible, and that means we need to continue to be patient and our entire community needs to be willing to make adjustments. By accepting and embracing changes to maintain social distancing and personal hygiene, we can get our sport back up and running safely. The health and wellbeing of our members remains our top priority as we plan for the weeks and months ahead.”
A possible return to activity in the coming weeks would constitute small training groups of no more than 10 people including coaches and staff. All baseball activity will need to follow social distancing guidelines outlined by Baseball Victoria and the Victorian government. We will have more details on this timeline and the requirements for returning to activity soon, and we will provide updates accordingly.
Baseball Victoria continues to work with winter associations in establishing when we will be able to return to activity. Each association will decide on how they wish to return to activity and participate in the remaining time for the winter season.
Baseball Victoria also continues to communicate with VSBL clubs on the start of the 2020/21 summer season. We are in regular contact with Sport and Recreation Victoria, local councils and winter associations to determine when the summer season will start and when clubs will have access to summer baseball diamonds.
Baseball Victoria will confirm any adjustments to state and national fees for the winter and summer seasons as starting dates are confirmed.
We are also working to ensure all clubrooms and club facilities across both the winter and summer seasons are appropriately cleaned and that all fields are well-maintained during this time.
Please note we believe it will be unlikely that international travel will return in time for import players for the summer season, however any updates or confirmation of this will be made accordingly.
If you have any questions please contact Baseball Victoria, with full contact details available HERE.

Baseball Victoria continues to closely monitor the complicated, shifting COVID-19 pandemic as we follow all state and federal restrictions to protect the health and safety of the community.
Baseball Victoria confirms that at this stage, the current shutdown of all baseball activity will be extended through Sunday, 31 May 2020.
This includes all forms of baseball training, club activities and team meetings, as well as events, tournaments and competitions.
Decisions that are being made continue to evolve, and we are unable to say with any certainty across a range of contributing factors how the next months will progress to allow us to return to playing baseball. As the landscape shifts, we will continue to monitor these changes and apply them as necessary.
The winter competitions for Bendigo, Dandenong, Geelong, Latrobe Valley and North Eastern Baseball Associations and Melbourne Winter Baseball League and Sunraysia Baseball League will not commence until after Monday, 1 June 2020. We are currently anticipating the opening day for those seasons to fall on Saturday, 13 June 2020.
“In these unprecedented times delaying the start of the winter baseball season, while understandably disappointing to the Victorian baseball community, is the only course of action available to the Baseball Victoria Board to ensure compliance with government measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to provide clarity for Winter Associations and Winter Clubs planning purposes,” Baseball Victoria President Myles Foreman said.
“This decision has been taken in consultation with the Winter Associations and Summer Clubs participating in the VSBL. I would like to take this opportunity to thank these Boards and Committees for the collaborative spirit in which we have worked together to navigate the direct and indirect impacts of COVID-19.”
“Thank you also to Baseball Victoria CEO Kristie Middleton and the Baseball Victoria Office team who have continued to provide leadership and support to the Victorian Baseball Community during the same challenging times we are all facing in our personal, professional sporting worlds.”
“The constantly changing situation will continue to be monitored and Baseball Victoria will continue to work with the Winter Associations and Clubs in preparation of resuming baseball in Victoria. In the meantime, please stay safe and healthy in these unsettling and unprecedented times,” Foreman added.
Baseball Victoria and the Winter Associations are working together on the format of those seasons and how these competitions will impact the commencement of the 2020/21 Victorian Summer Baseball League season.
The Baseball Victoria state capitation fees will be reduced by 10%, and members who have already paid will be refunded via Sports TG. These refunds will be processed in the next 48 hours.
The Sports TG portal for registering for the winter season will be closed until Friday, 1 May 2020.
Baseball Victoria and the Winter Associations have also concluded the 2020 State Winter Championships should be abandoned, allowing the Winter Associations to conduct the longest possible winter season.
The State Winter Championships have been rescheduled to the same dates and locations for 2021:
12-14 June 2021 Senior Geelong
26-27 June 2021 U14 Bendigo
03-04 July 2021 U18 Mildura
17-18 July 2021 U16 Morwell/Traralgon
24-25 July 2021 U12 Werribee
“Our organisation is conscious of the long-term effects this pandemic will place across our economy, sporting bodies, associations and clubs,” Baseball Victoria CEO Kristie Middleton said. “We have prepared a page with information as it is applicable to share with you to assist in navigating this space.” Please click HERE for COVID-19 resources.
We would also like to make our members aware that Major League Baseball (MLB) has issued a mandate for scouts to cease operations in their entirety during the shutdown of professional baseball.

Baseball Victoria continues to work with the Winter Associations regarding the upcoming winter season, scheduled to commence on 18 April 2020. Contingencies will be considered, taking into account the fast-paced ongoing nature of further restrictions, long-term restrictions that have already been foreshadowed and suitable timelines for training before the commencement of the season.
We urge the baseball community to adhere to the restrictions in place and review all health information available.

Non-essential travel restrictions look certain to affect the National Little League events scheduled in the coming months and Baseball Victoria is working with Baseball Australia and our state and territory colleagues.
Updated 23 March 2020 - HERE is the information provided by Baseball Australia postponing all National Little League events.
Baseball Victoria, in this unprecedented and unique situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, is taking a lead from international and national sporting codes to postpone all Victorian Baseball activity from Tuesday, 17 March 2020 until Tuesday, 7 April 2020.
Decisions in relation to the health and safety of our baseball community have been given careful consideration. Following consultations with the federal and state government, Sport Australia and Baseball Australia and our state and territory baseball counterparts, as well as following in line with restrictions on Major League Baseball in the United States, we are postponing our non-essential static gatherings as a precautionary action to assist in stopping the spread of this virus to the most vulnerable members of our communities.
Baseball Victoria and all our member clubs and associations incorporating all remaining summer baseball activities, all winter association and club activity across Victoria and all Baseball Victoria activities will cease for 21 days. This includes all training, club activities and team meetings, as well as events, tournaments and competitions.
In addition to our regular baseball, this will affect the postponement of the following major events:
2020 Australian Women’s Championships - scheduled for 10-17 April 2020, this has been postponed until further notice
2020 Charter Player Development Program including the Super Series – scheduled for Saturday, 21 March has been postponed until further notice
2020 Charter Little League State Championships
2020 Senior, Junior and Intermediate League State Championships – scheduled for 28-30 March, this has been postponed until further notice
2020 Little League State Championships – scheduled for 3-5 April, this has been postponed until further notice
2020 Baseball Victoria Awards Night – scheduled for Thursday, 26 March, this has been postponed until September 2020
Participants for the 2020 Australian Women’s Championships and 2020 Charter State Championships that are being postponed will receive a full refund. Please note that any payment made via Team App will be processed back via Team App and any payment made directly to Baseball Victoria will be refunded directly. Click HERE for details on refunds.
“The current situation is unprecedented in our lifetimes with the direct or indirect consequences of COVID-19 progressively impacting every aspect of Victorian, Australian and Global Communities. The impact on the ability for the Sport of Baseball to proceed at this time is just one of many COVID-19 impacts the Victorian Baseball Community is now experiencing. This decision was taken after extensive internal and external consultation and is based on the health and welfare of the Victorian Baseball Community and is consistent with a number of broader measures being implemented by government, business and sport to try and reduce the spread of COVID-19. These are very challenging and uncertain times and the measures announced today provide clarity on the next 21 days with updates to follow as the situation continues to evolve,” Baseball Victoria President Myles Foreman said.
This is a quickly evolving situation that changes every day, and that means a decision made today may be updated tomorrow. By clearly postponing events in our immediate future, we have the opportunity to make strong plans for the future that will ensure we can recommence baseball activities as soon as it is appropriate to do so.
The 2020 Australian Women’s Championships will be rescheduled in consultation with Baseball Australia (read Baseball Australia’s full statement HERE). Prior to the recommencement of that program players will be consulted on their availability and we may need to make changes to the teams in order to replace any players whom are not available.
The 2020 Charter Player Development Program, which was to be finished with the Super Series, will recommence immediately prior to the rescheduled 2020 Charter State Championships. This ensures that when we are able to return to play, participants will have the opportunity to train prior.
The 2020 Charter Little League State Championships lead to the National Little League Championships and subsequently the International Little League Championships. At this stage, we will continue to review how the state championships can be restructured and rescheduled later in April and May to allow participation in the national and then international event(s).
Baseball Australia is in an ongoing dialogue with Little League International with respect to eligibility, and the rules for timelines around participation in events, which all parties have conceded will need to be flexible as event timing continues to shift.
Currently the 2020 winter season with our member Winter Associations is scheduled to commence after Easter, and at this stage, these competitions will go ahead as planned. Consultation with the Winter Associations will be ongoing regarding the start of their season, the effect of rescheduled state and national events, and the Winter Championships. We expect that training for the winter season will be affected by this 21-day hiatus, and as soon as it practical we will confirm the start time for the season, considering the need for training to recommence prior.
Please note that as of today, the Baseball Victoria office has enacted its ‘Work From Home Plan’. The Baseball Victoria landline telephone will be diverted accordingly, and you can still call this number at any time. All staff are available directly via mobile and email. Please click HERE for full contact details.
The Baseball Victoria Board has convened a special Board Meeting to consider all possible scenarios and the impact, effect and ramifications of the rapidly evolving landscape related to COVID-19.
The meeting will take place on Monday 16 March with further advice related, but not limited to, the following areas of our operations to be advised to our community before midday Tuesday:
Player, volunteer and official welfare
Commercial and financial impact considerations
State, national and subsequent international competitions
Baseball community welfare
This is a very unique and challenging situation for all concerned. Baseball Victoria is working with Baseball Australia, and state, federal and baseball stakeholders to consider this situation and address it in an unified manner.
The Baseball Victoria Board and Administrators take their role in this matter very seriously and we are looking to lead and support baseball with empathy and considered decision-making.

Baseball Victoria, in consultation with Baseball Australia and the relevant health authorities, is following the requirements relating to COVID-19 for Victorian baseball.
The VSBL games that are scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 14 March, for women at the Springvale Baseball Club and men at the Melbourne Ballpark will continue as scheduled, however we recommend that you watch on the livestream rather than attend the venues, and that only essential spectators attend.
If attending, we encourage you to follow all the recommendations on healthy best practices from the Victorian government.
VSBL games will be livestreamed from both locations and we encourage you to join our baseball finals as part of our livestream coverage. VSBL livestreams will be available HERE.
The Charter Player Development Program Super Series #1 being held in Geelong has been postponed. At this stage, a new date has not yet been selected.
